Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Certainly agree with his last statement. Trump'll get plenty more of these awards for his lying.

Trump's button is bigger than Kim Jong Un's and unlike Kim's, Trump's works.

These two can settle this quicker than an army of professional analysts and diplomats in a hundred years. All they need is a Karaoke Hostess bar.

That is childish behavior. Is he trying to speak the same language as Kim because Kim would not understand him otherwise? Or is he the child who had too much money and power all his life and never the need to grow up? Anyway, it's scary....

North Korea is all about playing psychological advantages, and its encouraging to see we have a leader that is able to respond on the same level. That is Trump showing some cultural awareness, and negating North Korea's psychological advantage. It is more likely to gain respect from North Korea. That is how they roll.

It's also very funny.

I believe Kim has recognised that Trump's rhetoric can safely be ignored.

This is why Kim has made this clever move of contacting S. Korea directly via the hot line to initiate talks so bypassing Trump and the US.

It's a sign Kim's button doesn't actual work. His soldiers are also starting to starve.

There is no bypassing Trump and the US. Kim just has to stay quiet during the Olympics.

What's this about bypassing the US (saw that in several posts now).
Why would North and South Korea ask the US before talking to eachother?

According to this video (link provided by marton in the Iran-protest thread - takes a while for the video to start), South Korea called on that line twice a day. Asking the US first every time?

Now it would be funny if those North Korean athletes used their visit to the South as an opportunity to defect.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Its all about saving face. Kim has no way to save face after a South Korean Olympics. So his extension is a way to somehow show he participated in its success. South Korea just needs to throw him a bone until after the Olympics.

Afterwards, Kim will use any gains made during the respite to once again try to agitate for greater advantage. That is North Korea's Modus Operandi, and there is no reason to expect this to be any different.

He may even be shooting basketball with Trump in the near future. Kim is running out of room to move.

According to the German news (yesterday) North Korea wished Sout Korea good games and agreed to keep quiet during the games and I think they'll send some (plitical?) delegation but they explicitly said on the news that it is not decided whether they will send their athletes too.

"Why would North and South Korea ask the US before talking to each other?" They do not need to but Trump wants to insert the US into any conversation to make their demands re nuclear weapons.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump has taken a fancy to blackmailing. Now he threatens to stop payments to the Palestinians if they don't sit down to have peace talks. (German news today).

This is the MAGA Trump who said the US will not get involved in foreign policy issues.

He should have stayed with this idea

Smart. Conditions should be tied to those payments. Peace is great.

Otherwise, it should be used for domestic purposes. Puerto Rico can make better use of it.

Surely not getting involved in foreign policy issues would imply he should stop funding them.

Attaching a demand that he knows wont't be fulfilled just makes the transition less abrupt.

Why not simply stop the funding if that is his policy?

Playing around with such weasel methods just makes him look weak or if his demand is met then he is stuck with paying??

Because the failure of the peace process is not Trump's fault. It's the Palestinians throwing their toys out of the pram.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

According to a new book to be issued next week this is a quote from former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon;

Quote:
The three senior guys in the [Trump] campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor — with no lawyers. They didn’t have any lawyers.

Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.
Source

Interesting if true, we will have to wait and see if Bannon denies this
