I think if you can't remember the words to the anthem, you aren't allowed to get annoyed at Colin Kaepernick.

Everyone knows the words to the US national anthem...come on...I presume everyone in here knows it and half of us aren't even American. It gets played before every sporting event and plenty of other random occasions, so if an American doesn't know it word for word, they are doing a piss poor job. It's a great anthem, not as good as France or Italy, but better than GSTQ...dull.
Looking forward to a video of you singing it, with the words in the right order, and on pitch.

Unfortunately it is too late.

All four verses, including the bit about slavery?

Haha, I never promised on pitch now, did I? But all the words (in order?!), sure! It's 8 lines of text, not War and Peace. Most of us hold the lyrics to hundreds of songs in our bonce.

No, I obviously don't know all 4 verses, as I don't of the GB national anthem or even the Scottish one (we commonly sing verses 1 & 3 at sporting events, I think I know the 2nd verse, but couldn't say 100%), and I would never hold anyone to that standard. The one verse that you hear x times a day for your whole life, which is the embodiment of patriotism (apparently) and you (not you personally perhaps, but "people") criticise others for not singing - well, I would make damn well sure I knew the words.

By "on pitch" I assume was meant "on the playing field", don't forget your helmet

He has smartly managed all his difficulties extremely well to become a hugely successful businessman
<buzzzzzzz> Wrong! He took daddies fortune and lost most of it, if he'd just stuck the whole lot in a tracker fund he'd be substantially better off.

And that's before you take into account the times daddy bailed him out before he died.

Remember only he is saying he's successful and a genius, his track record says something totally different. He claims he's a billionaire, others claim he's no where near, he's only real skill seems to be persuading people to keep on lending him money. I suspect he'd be totally screwed if he suddenly had to pay everyone he owes. Rumors of huge debts to china for instance.

I read that the Chinese where going to foreclose on him before he became president, I guess those debts will be quietly forgotten about now.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Seems the GOP tax reform could result in giving the States a big tax increase.

According to this article six States allow tax payers to deduct their Federal tax payments from their State tax bills. Consequently if their Federal tax bills are lower then their deduction from the State tax bill will be lower and so the net payment to the State will be higher.

Additionally the reform package made the federal base of taxation broader, and it lowered the Federal rates.
The states couple to the base for definitions and deductions, but they set their rates independently, Assuming their State rates don’t change, which would be a proactive change, then states would have more revenue.”

Law of unintended consequences strikes again

Now we will have to see if the States will change their tax laws? I assume the GOP States will and the Dem States will not at the same time blaming the GOP!!

I would have thought a good scientist has respect first and foremost for scientific method and logic, and is willing to throw out any factoids or theories and accept new ones in light of that.

Factoids, yes. Facts, no. Facts are facts -- immutable.

Um, no. There are facts and there are alternative facts. Have you learned nothing from this administration?? Trump is like, smart. And stuff.

Nice take.
I'd prefer a more democratic and distributed system where decisions would be taken collectively by many representatives of multiple entities, and federal tax share would be small. Clearly the size of country overgrew the current system.
But that would require a revolution.

Hallelujah! I love the Italian national anthem. Since the '98 World Cup, I've believed that we should replace GSTQ with Blur 'Song 2'. Just had visions of David Seaman air guitarring to that before a match.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) posted the entire Transcript of Simpson’s testimony on Tuesday to Congress after a feud erupted between Fusion GPS and Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).

Simpson is the CEO of Fusion GPS that wrote the famous dossier about Trump citing Russian links.

The transcript is a very, very long read but it does raise a lot of questions about Trump and his contacts with Italian and Russian Mafias, probably all innocent contacts.

A lawyer for Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of Fusion GPS, told congressional investigators that “somebody’s already been killed” as a result of the publication of the controversial dossier tying President Trump to Russia; all in the transcript.

I'd settle for England switching out to Jerusalem, they shouldn't be using the same one as the British anthem. We can keep flower of Scotland.

For the broader British anthem though, we need to ditch GSTQ...Love the rousing spirit of Land of Hope and Glory (despite the current irony), but it's a bit "Goddy" in the same way that GSTQ is too "Monarchy-y". I'd be happy to go with I Vow To Thee My Country, if we stick to the first verse it's not too Goddy.

Failing that, maybe let's just go with "Things can only get better"...what could be better than honouring National Treasure Brian Cox?

Anyway, it's largely academic...Wales already have the best GB anthem.

Getting a bit Off Topic, but the original music video to the British national anthem has at long last been released on YouTube:
