Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The office of special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday announced indictments against 13 Russian nationals and a trio of Russian entities on charges related to the Kremlin’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Charges in the indictment include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. The indictment alleges that some of the defendants were in communication with President Donald Trump’s campaign.

Here
is the link to the indictment, as posted by Mueller's office.

(You'd think that the Justice Dept of a first world nation would post stuff searchable text...)

Robert Mueller just made it impossible for Trump to call the special counsel probe a 'total hoax'

Quote:
This paragraph from the indictment stands out:
"Defendant ORGANIZATION had a strategic goal to sow discord in the U.S. political system, including the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Defendants posted derogatory information about a number of candidates, and by early to mid-2016, Defendants' operations included supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump ("Trump Campaign") and disparaging Hillary Clinton.
Defendants made various expenditures to carry out those activities, including buying political advertisements on social media in the names of U.S. persons and entities.
Defendants also staged political rallies inside the United States, and while posing as U.S. grassroots entities and U.S. persons, and without revealing their Russian identities and ORGANIZATION affiliation, solicited and compensated real U.S. persons to promote or disparage candidates.
Some Defendants, posing as U.S. persons and without revealing their Russian association, communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign and with other political activists to seek to coordinate political activities."

This clearly shows the allegations against Russian entities but does not yet address collusion.

You see? We waited and it turned out the Russian probe was not a 'nothing burger'.

Now we just have to wait a bit longer

"There are two groups that have created chaos more than the Russians and that’s the Democrats and the mainstream media,” Gidley [White House] spokesman said.

I know it is the job of WH press secretaries to spin news and to "gild the lily".

But is it usual for WH press secretaries to openly tell lies which are destroyed in hours by the facts?
Some examples from the many!
Spicer; biggest inauguration crowd ever
Sanders; the [Porter] intelligence background investigation was not completed
Shah; White House spokesman Raj Shah on Friday claimed that new indictments in the Russia probe prove that the Russians did not try to promote one presidential candidate over another in 2016, despite the special counsel charging the exact opposite.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Quote:
In a series of tweets on Saturday afternoon, Trump repeated his assertion that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia, pointing to an opinion piece published in the New York Post, the president’s tabloid of choice, titled: “Russian indictments prove Trump won fair and square.”

He continued: “Funny how the Fake News Media doesn’t want to say that the Russian group was formed in 2014, long before my run for President. Maybe they knew I was going to run even though I didn’t know!”
The unwavering denial continues. Even if (and that is doubtful) Trump wasn't aware of Russia tampering with elections and referendums, how can he carry on acting like he was a fairly elected President? Then make ridiculous comments, like those above. Of course they didn't know he would run for presidency in 2014, but they had the mechanisms in place to tamper with the election processes in the democracies they fear and despise the most.

Quite. Mueller is in for the long haul. His 37 page indictment of Russians is a first step.
1) Until now Trump, Fox and Co. have been saying that the whole thing was a hoax and a witch hunt with no foundation. They can no longer do that.
2) Also, firing Mueller and Rosenstein, which has been discussed a lot, would now be a flagrant obstruction of justice in favor of the Russians, so it is off the table.

Next step is to out the Americans who helped or collaborated with the Russians. These will not be Trump and immediate associates, but some will probably have worked for them. After THAT, we will finally be able to see the full scale of Mueller's discoveries.

Interesting times.

True!

Now Mueller has raised criminal charges against the Russians then any obstruction of justice becomes the obstruction of a criminal investigation which is a significant step higher.

Trump: FBI 'spending too much time' on Russia inquiry and missed Florida shooter signs

The president’s attempt to use the shooting to make a political point about the Russia inquiries drew swift criticism

Donald Trump has criticized the FBI for missing the “many signals” about the Florida school shooter, saying the agency was spending “too much time” trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

The US president’s attempt to use the shooting to make a political point about the FBI’s Russia inquiries into the Trump campaign drew swift criticism, including from John Kasich, the Republican governor of Ohio, who told CNN it was an “absurd statement”.

Trump, who the National Rifle Association (NRA) helped elect, made the comments as he faced demands for action on gun control, including from the teenage survivors of America’s latest school massacre.

Thousands of protesters at state rallies this weekend demanded an immediate response from lawmakers in the wake of Wednesday’s attack that left 17 victims dead at a high school in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday.

On Saturday at a rally in Fort Lauderdale, teenage survivors criticized politicians for taking donations from the NRA. “Shame on you”, said one student, Emma Gonzalez.

Trump, who the NRA spent spent more than $30m helping elect, has said little on gun control following the attack beyond a tweet late Saturday asking why Democrats didn’t pass legislation in the Obama administration, and has instead focussed on the mental health of the suspect, Nikolas Cruz.

On Twitter, Trump referenced the FBI’s admission on Friday that it failed to investigate a specific report in January that Cruz could be plotting a school shooting.

“Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is no acceptable,” tweeted Trump. He accused the FBI of “spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the 2016 Trump campaign”.

@ Castro

When you consider the only piece of Trump legislation about gun control was HJ Resolution 40.
This repealed an Obama-era rule that would have added thousands of mentally ill US citizens to a database preventing them buying firearms you realise how weak is the ground Trump stands on
