Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump seems to be in major melt down.

18 tweets in the last 24 hours

13 about Russia and only one about the Florida shooting.

Every tweet looking backwards, not one tweet with any sort of next steps like a promise, commitment, idea or strategy about tackling the major problems on Trump's desk

There's something grossly inappropriate about the photo on Trump's twitter of him with the Broward County Sheriff's Dept. Perhaps it's the beaming grins. Almost as if they'd forgotten why they were there in the first place.

Trump: FBI 'spending too much time' on Russia inquiry and missed Florida shooter signs

The president’s attempt to use the shooting to make a political point about the Russia inquiries drew swift criticism

Donald Trump has criticized the FBI for missing the “many signals” about the Florida school shooter, saying the agency was spending “too much time” trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

The US president’s attempt to use the shooting to make a political point about the FBI’s Russia inquiries into the Trump campaign drew swift criticism, including from John Kasich, the Republican governor of Ohio, who told CNN it was an “absurd statement”.

Trump, who the National Rifle Association (NRA) helped elect, made the comments as he faced demands for action on gun control, including from the teenage survivors of America’s latest school massacre.

Thousands of protesters at state rallies this weekend demanded an immediate response from lawmakers in the wake of Wednesday’s attack that left 17 victims dead at a high school in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday.

On Saturday at a rally in Fort Lauderdale, teenage survivors criticized politicians for taking donations from the NRA. “Shame on you”, said one student, Emma Gonzalez.

Trump, who the NRA spent spent more than $30m helping elect, has said little on gun control following the attack beyond a tweet late Saturday asking why Democrats didn’t pass legislation in the Obama administration, and has instead focussed on the mental health of the suspect, Nikolas Cruz.

On Twitter, Trump referenced the FBI’s admission on Friday that it failed to investigate a specific report in January that Cruz could be plotting a school shooting.

“Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is no acceptable,” tweeted Trump. He accused the FBI of “spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the 2016 Trump campaign”.

Full story
Survivors intend to march on Washington on 24th March to demand action.

Politicians will nod sagely, say we'll do something soon and then go back to sleep on the issue. Nothing will change because they don't want it to change.

@ Castro

When you consider the only piece of Trump legislation about gun control was HJ Resolution 40.
This repealed an Obama-era rule that would have added thousands of mentally ill US citizens to a database preventing them buying firearms you realise how weak is the ground Trump stands on
To offer a counter-point, many disability advocates wanted Trump's action. They felt/feel it's offensive to classify everyone with a mental illness as potentially violent and that a database is infringing on their rights.

They've got a point, but then what's the answer to prevent people with mental illness from obtaining guns?

It seems like mental illness is a bit of a red herring in the gun debate, out of 235 mass killings only 22% could be considered to have some component of mental illness and when looking at seriously mental ill (e.g. schizophrenic) the number is 1%. For me there is a distinction between personality disorders and mental illness, and the data indicates that the former is a bigger contributor to these mass killings than mental illness.

I agree with you but this is a thread about Trump.
The Trump who claimed the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed and the same Trump who cancelled the law stopping mentally disabled people from buying guns.

So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

In all reality, HJ Resolution 40 would not have prevented this incident, as the suspect (although obviously mentally unwell) does not meet requirements of section 12.00 of the Listing of Impairments.

Wonder if the NRA will be sponsoring research to conclude that mental illness is indeed the culprit.

There is a Presidents’ Day sale on bump stocks, the device the Las Vegas shooter put on his rifles [to turn them into automatic weapons].
Slide Fire Solutions, a bump stocks manufacturer, is offering 10% off with the coupon code MAGA.

It's a sellout, I'm sure. "S' hätt solang's hätt" before it will never be produced again

I might have to consider unsuscribing from this thread for health reasons soon as I do get phisically sick from some of the information I read here.
I know, the totally wrong reaction but FFS ..... !

Former Trump aide Richard Gates to plead guilty, agrees to testify against Manafort.

A former top aide to Donald Trump's presidential campaign will plead guilty to fraud-related charges within days — and has made clear to prosecutors that he would testify against Paul Manafort, the lawyer-lobbyist who once managed the campaign.

The change of heart by Trump's former deputy campaign manager Richard Gates, who had pleaded not guilty after being indicted in October on charges similar to Manafort's, was described in interviews by people familiar with the case.

Question is will that be sufficient to turn Manafort into cooperating with the FBI!

For around three months Manafort was Trump's campaign manager and during that time attended the meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya and several others at Trump Tower.

Could be Manafort would have an interesting story to tell?

The New York Daily News rips President Trump with its Tuesday cover for golfing near Mar-a-Lago while funerals for those killed in the Florida high school shooting were taking place just miles away.

Trump who heavily criticised Obama for playing golf during his presidency has himself played golf far more often. As of Jan. 19, 2018, the score of confirmed golf outings is Trump 44, Obama 29.

We should be grateful as it keeps him away from his tweet machine.
