Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

A new indictment has been unsealed in special counsel Robert Mueller’s criminal case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The latest indictment accuses Manafort, with Gates’s help, of secretly retaining a group of former senior European politicians to take positions that were favorable to Ukraine as part of their illegal lobbying work for Kiev’s government. That work included lobbying in the United States.

Manafort wired over $2 million from his offshore accounts to pay these former politicians, the indictment alleges.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Despite Trump's repeated pledges to get undocumented immigrants "out" of the country he has actually deported fewer than Obama.

In 2017, the Trump administration deported nearly 215,000 immigrants according to ICE statistics, 13% fewer than the nearly 250,000 deported by Obama in 2016.

In 2017 under Trump, ICE made routine arrests of more than 155,000 immigrants, in 2016 the Obama administration arrested almost 110,000.

It makes him someone who did not deliver his campaign promises?

Since he is arresting more people than Obama but deporting fewer then the result is the pool of immigrants waiting for their deportation court hearing is getting larger.
Consequently a lot more immigrants are sitting in jail for much longer.

The backlog in the U.S. immigration courts has reached an all-time high, with 632,261 cases pending as of August 2017. In some of the nation’s largest immigration courts, people wait an average of three to five years for their next hearing. Trump Administration policies are making it worse.

Source

So overall I would claim it makes him bad!

All I'm finding so far is references to the 'Hapsburg Group' and a former Chancellor. Hmmm... Has the plot thickened or is it quicksand from here on in.

In the Austrian press, shortlived former Chancellor, Alfred Gusenbauer, is denying his involvement...

According to the US authorities, Austria's ex-Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer (SPÖ) took part in concealed lobbying in 2013 for the then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich in the USA.

Having translated this article, it's such a tangled web that I doubt Trump would be able to grasp the legality of it all, and even is he did, he's such a scofflaw that he probably thought it was too far removed from him to matter.

It was always one of Trump's nuttier claims that Mexico would pay for the wall but not as nutty as his supporters who stood and cheered for his nonsense.

Romano Prodi, the former Italian prime minister and European Commission president, Alfred Gusenbauer, the former Austrian chancellor, andAleksander Kwasniewski, Poland’s former president, all said on Saturday that they had been big backers of stronger EU-Ukraine ties in 2012 and 2013 when Mr Manafort’s secret lobbying campaign was allegedly underway.

But all three denied that they had received any funds from Mr Manafort.

Well they would wouldn't they

This is the truth of the matter. The Democrats have not done the hard work of rebuilding themselves into a party with vote-winning policies. They've been happy just to let hatred of Trump be their policy. And that is unlikely be enough. God save America.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Today's surprise

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear the Trump administration's challenge to a lower court ruling temporarily blocking it from winding down the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The decision delivers a blow to the Trump administration, which argues that DACA is unconstitutional.

It also could ease some pressure on Congress to quickly come up with a legislative solution, since the decision comes just a week before a March 5 deadline set by President Trump for Congress to enact legislation to replace the program established by former President Obama.

This deadline no longer applies; Trump will have to wait for the case to drift through the lower courts for a new deadline to appear or for DACA to be allowed to continue indefinitely.

Source

Waiting for the twitter explosion

Edit; could be up to a year before the courts are finished with this

Donald Trump: I would have run into Florida school shooting unarmed

Donald Trump has claimed he would have run into the deadly Florida school shooting "even if I didn't have a weapon".

As students return to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland almost two weeks after 17 pupils and teachers were shot dead in the massacre, the US President has again criticised the response of officers who failed to stop suspected gunman Nikolas Cruz sooner.

Speaking to 39 governors at the White House on Monday, Mr Trump said the likes of Scott Peterson - the armed officer on duty at the school at the time of the attack - "weren't exactly Medal of Honour winners".

"I really believe I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon," he said.

"And I think most of the people in this room would have done that too. You never know until you're tested."

Mr Peterson - the local deputy sheriff - has denied accusations that he acted unprofessionally during the shooting on Valentine's Day, adding that he thought it was happening outside the building.

The latest comments by Mr Trump - who believes arming teachers is the solution to keeping US schools safer - came after one of the survivors of the Parkland shooting spoke for the first time since the attack.

Maddy Wilford, 17, was shot multiple times and suffered serious injuries to her chest and stomach, resulting in three operations.

Doctors who treated her at Broward Health North said she was "very lucky" to be alive and the teenager - who attended a press conference alongside her parents - called on Americans to "stick together".

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, which has a roll of 3,200 students, is set to reopen on Wednesday.

Donald "Walter Mitty" Trump. Brave, so brave.

That time he told Howard Stern what he did when an old man suffered a nasty fall...

"I was at Mar-a-Lago and we had this incredible ball, the Red Cross Ball, in Palm Beach, Florida. And we had the Marines. And the Marines were there, and it was terrible because all these rich people, they’re there to support the Marines, but they’re really there to get their picture in the Palm Beach Post… so you have all these really rich people, and a man, about 80 years old—very wealthy man, a lot of people didn’t like him—he fell off the stage.

"So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head, and I thought he died. And you know what I did? I said, 'Oh my God, that’s disgusting,' and I turned away. I couldn’t, you know, he was right in front of me and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him… he’s bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible. You know, beautiful marble floor, didn’t look like it. It changed color. Became very red. And you have this poor guy, 80 years old, laying on the floor unconscious, and all the rich people are turning away. 'Oh my God! This is terrible! This is disgusting!' and you know, they’re turning away. Nobody wants to help the guy. His wife is screaming—she’s sitting right next to him, and she’s screaming.

"What happens is, these 10 Marines from the back of the room… they come running forward, they grab him, they put the blood all over the place—it’s all over their uniforms—they’re taking it, they’re swiping, they ran him out, they created a stretcher. They call it a human stretcher, where they put their arms out with, like, five guys on each side.

"I was saying, 'Get that blood cleaned up! It’s disgusting!' The next day, I forgot to call to say he’s OK. It’s just not my thing."
