A tariff aimed firmly at Asia. No European in their right mind buys US produced cars. And anyway still within the WTO rules which Trump wants to break.
Switzerland seems pretty full of them. They are the biggest selling cars in the Nordics too.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

I'm in two minds about the NK visit, but I think it has a high chance of not happenng, though it's certainly serving it's purpose as a great distraction from the Stormy Daniels affair.

My prediction is NK will start crowing about how they forced america to come crawling and trump will cancel in the huff.

What will he tweet though? 'That Kim Jong Un though, he's got forced labor camps for anyone that criticises him, forced labor! maybe we ought to try that someday'

US built cars? The only pure US brand that gets a mention is Chevrolet, way under 1% of 2017 sales and anyway actually mostly Korean.

Actual US built cars is below 1% of the total. Fords are almost all built in Europe as are Opel (which anyway is no longer American).

Trump even forgot that he had to sign the tariff proclamation

"As Trump got ready to leave the room, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin reminded the President to sign the proclamation."

The font used for the news-paper-title on this site looks like a Nazi-paper in the 30-ies. Is that part of the joke?

Here you can find all the tariffs the EU imposes. How are Trump tariffs bad and EU tariffs good?
European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker warned President Trump that Europe will respond to his tariffs with reciprocal measures, blasting the U.S. tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum as "stupid."

In a statement to The Economist, Juncker said that "we can also do stupid," seemingly warning that the European Union (EU) could pass trade measures designed to hurt the U.S. economy.

AFAIK, both Mercedes GLE and BMW X5 are built in the US.

Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg are produced in Bratatislava, though.

Last year 1'601 Merc GLE and 1'875 X5 were immatriculated (CH+FL), that's 1.1% of 314k total. Hardly significant.

South Korea on Trump:

"I explained to President Trump that his leadership and his maximum pressure policy together with international solidarity brought us to this juncture. I expressed President Moon Jae-in's personal gratitude for President Trump's leadership"

Was meaning Tesla really, sell incredibly well in the Nordic lands. They are US cars, but re-assembled in the Netherlands plant to avoid VAT or some import duty I think.

Must admit I forgot Tesla (was looking at ICE lists). They sell in good numbers in Norway specifically due to the tax/incentive situation there but not particularly in Sweden or Denmark. Also decent numbers in CH and the Netherlands relative to the market size - although still only about 1% of the total market last year.

Saw elsewhere their European sales numbers crashed in Jan/Feb 2018. Really no idea what is behind that.
