For Friday

Trump: My approval rating is '7 or 8 points' higher than what polls say

Overall I suppose it is better for Trump to believe that, otherwise he would be driven to ever more extreme actions to try to improve his popularity.

BTW,, in the Rasmussen polls that Trump likes to quote his approval level is down again to 47%, safely below Obama at the same point in his Presidency.

I'm beginning to envy him for his ability to create his own, happy world so effectively.

Many thanks.

Not covered in this article is that an 1878 law banning federal troops from enforcing domestic laws would limit how much the guardsman can do along the border.

Also the National Guardsmen will be unarmed to avoid antagonising the Mexican Govt. who are against "militarizing the border".

Trump has cited a “caravan” of more than 1,000 Central Americans traveling toward the U.S. southern border as justification for a new crackdown but he has admitted now the Mexican Govt. already stopped the caravan a long, long way from the border. Anyway it is very doubtful reaching the US border was ever a caravan objective.

Actually a classic example of Fox News influencing Trump with fake news.
The National Guard would not be needed if the Border Patrol filled all their vacancies!

According to Customs and Border Protection, as of March 17, there were 19,346 Border Patrol agents on duty, over 2,000 short of the Congressional mandated 21,370. That's almost 100 fewer agents than there were at the end of September 2017.

Meanwhile happy Trump is trying to persuade Congress to fund 5,000 additional Border Patrol agents when there is no hope of recruiting so many.

Source

It really is a farce.

Meanwhile Trump's tariff rhetoric caused the Dow to drop nearly 600 points today crashing below 24,000 again.

What does the Department of Justice and FBI have to hide? Why aren’t they giving the strongly requested documents (unredacted) to the HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE? Stalling, but for what reason? Not looking good!
They are Trump's DOJ & FBI, if he does not like what they are doing then he should fix it?

We are sealing up our Southern Border. The people of our great country want Safety and Security. The Dems have been a disaster on this very important issue!
Trump is sending up to 4,000 National Guards; the border is almost 2,000 miles long.

That works out at one National Guard every half mile. This is hardly "sealing up our Southern Border" ?

Defense Secretary James Mattis, memo authorizes the use of Title 32 and Defense Department dollars for up to 4,000 National Guard personnel to support the Department of Homeland Security’s “southern border security mission while under the command and control of their respective governors through September 30, 2018.”

It also states that troops "will not perform law enforcement activities or interact with migrants or other persons detained by DHS personnel” unless Mattis approves it.
Troops will be armed only in “circumstances that might require self-defense," according to the memo.

And the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) says men have to run no worse than a 13-17 minute mile (depending on age), so you know - they can just run to that bit of the wall where the bad guys are creeping in and catch them!

Ooh, that sounds like a great story problem for math class...

John and Larry are guarding the border half a mile apart. A bad guy running at 15 minutes per mile crosses the border roughly in the middle between them. He's 300 ft closer to John's post than Larry's. Assume the runner continues in a straight line...

Washington Post senior editor Marc Fisher: Trump is jealous of Jeff Bezos!

Fisher pointed specifically to the recent publication of the Forbes list of richest people in the world, on which Trump came in at No. 766 and Bezos topped the list.

“He’s had a long-standing obsession with that Forbes list and doesn’t like where he is on it,” Fisher said.

Loads of people gel together, comenting on Trump, knowing so much better apparently what needs to be done. Yet. They are not presidents, nor do they get paid for it. Nor does it improve anyone's life. I don't understand how much space in people's lives DT is getting, in both pro and against camps. I guess it gives some the sense of achievement, dunno. It is mystery for me. His clothes, wife, hairdo, tan...his tweets, every move and smiles get either thumbs up or outrage. I wish people were this way about..gorillas, pandas, Nobel Prize winners, smart inventors, good writers, manitees, world best teachers, well fitting chic underwear, good music, dodos, hibiscus tea, development, national parks, at least fraction of all that passion and popularity that people grant to potus. Hmmmm.

I'm surprised that you don't understand the far-reaching influence of the president of the USA. What he says and does ultimately has a significant impact on people worldwide, in one way or another. Not many people outside of Australia, Uruguay or the Czech Republic care what those countries' respective leaders have to say about anything, but when the US president speaks, everybody takes notice.

Think of Vietnam. And Korea.

It's a good thing you've told us that -- we'd never have realized, if we'd relied solely on the 220 times you've posted in this thread so far.

But he posted only 219 times according to you list. Did you - being foresighted - count in his reply?

A president who was democratically elected after all. Not a fan of him but it's amusing to see the passion and the extent to which some people are so keen to display it. It's constant, permanent, whatever....already a good few hundred pages reserved to these issues on this thread and counting...actually not. As you said, good music is much more rewarding. Hope acmilan on the cooking thread will be back with some new recipes soon.

On your lap.

Now now....be a good boy, put down the bottle (you're starting earlier and earlier these days, aren't you?) and don't make a big mess. That is reserved for more important people.

We certainly live in interesting times!!

Quote:
The FBI has reportedly raided the office of President Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.

The bureau raided Cohen's office on Monday and seized records related to several topics, including the $130,000 payment he arranged to adult film star Stormy Daniels days before the election
Source

Bet they found some interesting stuff

So much for client/lawyer privilege

Edit: from NY Times
Quote:
The seized records include communications between Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen, which would likely require a special team of agents to review because conversations between lawyers and clients are protected from scrutiny in most instances.

It's quite a thing to raid the president's lawyer's office!
I don't really understand on what legal basis what was done?!

The other thing I wonder: Is it illegal to have an agreement - including payment - to keep private matters private?
