An interesting opinion piece from a Republican strategist on CNN today, about how the Democrats are making a big mistake when it comes to immigration. I think he's not far off the mark, and Dems are going to have to do a lot more to get a "blue wave" in November than what they're doing right now.

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/25/o...ion/index.html
Ha! Surprising to read it off CNN. The comments on uselessness of "mob forming" and "pushing back on reps in public", lol. Finally a bit of sense in political discourse. It took them what...only 2 years to start calming the hysteria and outrage? While Trump is chuckling all the way to the next round. Anyone threatened with impeachment?

I doubt she'll be the first female U.S. president, mostly because voters are increasingly pushing back against dynasties (Bush, Clinton, etc.)

She looks exactly like her mom. Skier. I guess she would pull it off if whoever is behind Trump is behind her, too, or if Trump choaches her. I agree with you but they will not market her as a dynasty.

Also the fact she is Jewish, and you know how popular that particular religion is with Trump's voter base.

Certainly interesting but as he is a Republican strategist then just to remind us it is not objective.

He is correct that the Dems need more than anti Trump; they need to have clear goals and strategies.

Immigration is a difficult topic; there is the logical view and the perception view.
Trump is driving the perception view that immigration is bad, needs to be stopped and they are all criminals anyway. He gets a lot of support for this.

Logically we know the US white population is both aging and declining. In some future years the existing working population will have further declined and then be too small to support payment of the pension entitlement earned by the retired people.
Immigration provides a solution whereby immigrants work and pay taxes which will support pensions; sadly this is not an attractive "sell".

Currently it is claimed there are some eleven million illegal immigrants in the US and it is claimed most are working.
The US employment situation is now of full employment; this means there are more job vacancies than unemployed people.
If Trump were to succeed in sending all the illegal immigrants home it would pull so many workers out of the economy it would become unstable.

Likely the "Trump" perception view will be successful and find more supporters than the "logical" view.

The article states "Most voters welcome people coming here legally, but believe illegal immigration is a serious problem." but without supporting this claim.
Anyway the basic issue here is that the number of visas available via the legal route is far too small to meet the demands of the US workplace

It's an opinion piece by a Republican strategist, not an article by CNN writers. The fact Trumps so-called Fake News Favorite publishes such a piece is no small thing and the guy has some valid points. To disregard them just because the writer is a Republican would be unwise.

Of course the basic issue hasn't changed. But neither party seems willing to tackle it. So we go in circles and talk rhetoric and how the other party is to blame, and nothing gets done.

CNN publishes opinion pieces that support Trump, do not be fooled by Trump into believing CNN is solidly anti-Trump.

I'd reserve the emoji for shocking, unexpected occurrences! A slim majority decision by a Republican-slanting Supreme Court bench, on which the most recent appointment was made by a Republican president, in favour of a case brought by said Republican president, isn't one of those shocking, unexpected occurrences.

Trump wins again for the first time after several cocked-up attempts over a period of a year and a half to implement his racist Muslim ban!
Happy to FTFY. And a fat lot of good it's going to do the US. How many people in the US have been killed in the last 20 years by terrorists from Yemen, Iran, Somalia, Libya or Syria? Contrast that with the number of people killed by terrorists from Saudi Arabia -- or of course, the US.

This is a selling point that unfortunately the Dems cannot get themselves to raly behind. Rather their sell on immigration seems to be all about little girls with tears in their eyes. They are trying to go for the emotional sell over the logical sell.

See above, it's not logic versus perception but emotion vs perception.
