Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

In yet another step towards dictatorship the Trump administration have doctored the official Government record of the Trump/Putin Press conference

Source

Sadly, probably nobody will care or take any official action.

EDIT; so did the Russians; "doctored their official Government record"

Could you please explain why "Juncker Should Hope......."; the chart in your link shows there is only a tiny difference ( 0.6% ) between the average tariffs EU - US and US - EU? I did post about these average tariffs earlier!

Incidentally although this "trade war" has barely started it seems to be only the US that is suffering; already a $12 Billion subsidy to US farmers.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

That $12 billion is just a temporary measure. You need to add it to the approximately $200 billion in annual subsidies and price support.

West African cotton growers can’t compete with subsidised US cotton. One reason why many are heading for European shores.

Just read that is actually "minimum $12 billion"

Wait until you find out how much in subsidies get handed out each year as part of the Common Agricultural Policy.

It is about 50 billion euro; but what has that to do with Trump and with his new tariffs.

What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped - can this be so? Too bad!

What kind of lawyer? The kind of lawyer who takes every precaution against a client who might possibly later lie about what instructions he gave his lawyer.

Anyway seems this bromance is over and Cohen is now definitely outside the tent and pi##ing in!

Careful not to underestimate Trump supporters. While some do believe whatever he says, a large number know he's lying and buffing and they are okay with it. They like his style. As long as they see the economic results he's promised, he's doing a good job. Even those being hit by the tariffs - particularly the farmers - many of them still support him and think that the tariffs will eventually bring about positive change overall.
I wish I could believe that, but it's not my experience. I also wonder, if they know what a horrible liar he is, how do they know he's telling the truth about the economic miracles he's performing?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

In today’s NYTs there is an Op-Ed from the CEO of Cummings complaining about the tariffs and the effect on his business. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/25/o...ol-left-region

He is in Indiana which voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Trump, and his company is a big contributor to Pence and the Republican Party.

All I can say is ... Well Duh!

It is hard not to laugh.
Quote:
(Reuters) - The red, white and blue banners for U.S. President Donald Trump's second-term campaign are ready to ship, emblazoned with the words "Keep America Great!"

But they are made in eastern China and soon could be hit by punitive tariffs of Trump's own making as he ratchets up a rancorous trade dispute with Beijing.

Because the whole point of tarrifs is to offset subsidies that create an unfair advantage.

Fox News on Wednesday came out in support of CNN after one of CNN's reporters was reportedly banned from a White House event.

"We stand in strong solidarity with CNN for the right to full access for our journalists as part of a free and unfettered press," Fox News president Jay Wallace said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

Good to see push back against people trying to ban a free press!
