Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

@Dark Phoenix

So you believe the issue is that Trump does not recognise he is just a figurehead but instead tries to run the country?

To vary an old joke, there is a spaceship with Trump, a pig and a dog in the cockpit.
The pig's job is to fly the spaceship.
The dog's job is to bite Trump if he tries to fly the spaceship.

Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims “unwavering faith in President Trump.” Thank you to Chairman Kim. We will get it done together!
Kim has clearly recognised if he just keeps flattering Trump then nothing else matters or needs to be fixed

Finally @Dark Phoenix about "Let me save you all some time as someone from this country and intimately familiar with it's politics. "
Do you know the old saying "the spectator sees most of the game"!

I want to make sure I understand this...if one or both houses go blue, you’re saying no one wins because a bunch of delusional Trump supporters will think it;s a set up. So you’re hoping for status quo?
Not hoping for status quo. Will try to phrase better.

If Rs keep both houses:
  • status quo
  • Trump and his supporters can claim "victory" over the bad hombres trying to make America suck

If Ds win one house:
  • Ds score a moral victory but don't have power to do much except be the new "party of no".
  • Trump and his supporters have "proof" of the conspiracy from the left, because clearly they (the Rs) should have won. Anything even remotely crap that happens during the remainder of the presidency is the fault of the Ds, because of course if the Rs had won they'd keep making America great.

If Ds win both houses:
  • Ds score a reasonable victory in that they can at least stop a large chunk of Trump's agenda going forward, although they can't advance any agenda of their own because Trump won't sign the legislation
  • Trump and his supporters have "proof" of the conspiracy from the left, because clearly they (the Rs) should have won. Anything even remotely crap that happens during the remainder of the presidency is the fault of the Ds, because of course if the Rs had won they'd keep making America great.

The one exception is Vice President Pence, who actually can't be fired by Trump. I bring this up because there's an amusing twitter theory that Pence is the anonymous author because he frequently uses the word "lodestar": https://twitter.com/danbl00m/status/1037428190166347776

LOL, I hope it is him and Trump figures it out.

Video of Pence saying lodestar 8 times over the last 17 years:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) recessed the Senate on Thursday after Republicans warned that Democrats could try to use arcane procedure to stop Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court hearing.

McConnell asked that the Senate be recessed “subject to the call of the chair”—meaning they will come back into session later Thursday, if only to formally adjourn for the day.
Strange decision, no clue what this implies?

Poor, handicapped and ill people that were not able to go to the inauguration were added to the photos with photoshop. Only the greatest can be so considerate.

South Korean officials said Wednesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has agreed to conditionally cooperate with the U.S. in nuclear negotiations.
Conditions include acknowledgement by the US of NK's steps already taken and a peace treaty among the three parties (though not necessarily withdrawal of US troops fom SK).

And of course Kim still talks about denuclearisation of the peninsula, as opposed to of NK. Meaning no US nukes in SK, probably no aircraft carriers and submarines either as most (all?) are powered by a nuclear reactor.

Denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula means that the US has to remove its nuclear weapons too.

There is no way that will happen. None.

(If you want to know why, just google why no US warships visit New Zealand).

That policy ended a couple of years ago when USS Sampson helped out after the earthquake in Kaikoura.

But I don't see the connection with denuclearizing the Korean peninsula. You mean, the US Navy's refusal to confirm or deny nuclear power or warheads? I don't really expect them to tell the truth anyway...

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Turns out Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh lied under oath, repeatedly, during Bush's term in his confirmation to the DC circuit. This explains why McConnell was uneasy about this nomination and why so many documents were hidden.

Source

Quote:
Newly released emails show that while he was working to move through President George W. Bush’s judicial nominees in the early 2000s, Kavanaugh received confidential memos, letters, and talking points of Democratic staffers stolen by GOP Senate aide Manuel Miranda
...
Kavanaugh should be removed because he was repeatedly asked under oath as part of his 2004 and 2006 confirmation hearings for his position on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit about whether he had received such information from Miranda, and each time he falsely denied it.

For example, in 2004, Sen. Orrin Hatch asked him directly if he received “any documents that appeared to you to have been drafted or prepared by Democratic staff members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.” Kavanaugh responded, unequivocally, “No.”

In 2006, Sen. Ted Kennedy asked him if he had any regrets about how he treated documents he had received from Miranda that he later learned were stolen. Kavanaugh rejected the premise of the question, restating that he never even saw one of those documents.
...
During the hearings on his nomination to the D.C. Circuit a few months after the Miranda news broke, Kavanaugh actively hid his own involvement, lying to the Senate Judiciary Committee by stating unequivocally that he not only knew nothing of the episode, but also never even received any stolen material.
This may not be enough to be prosecuted for perjury. But it's pretty absurd to put someone who lies under oath on the Supreme Court, but we live in an absurd time...

Unusual for a past President to attack a sitting President but then Trump has attacked Obama so many times that this is not really a surprise.

Now the NYT claim that most calls received as a result are actually praising them.

Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts. I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!

Nike’s online sales appear to have surged in the week since it announced Colin Kaepernick as the face of its latest ad campaign.

According to data released from Edison Trends, a digital commerce research company based in Silicon Valley, online sales for the sportswear brand grew 31 percent from last Sunday through Tuesday.

They noted that the growth is also a 17 percent gain over the number recorded for the same period in 2017, the new report found.

Karma; Trump keeps tweeting about Nike so driving their sales ever higher!

Wonder if anyone told Trump?

Meanwhile the ‘Plaid shirt guy’ ejected from Trump rally whose facial expressions behind President Trump at his Montana rally this week went viral online says the Secret Service treated him well but told him "not to come back" when he was removed from his seat behind the president Thursday.

He said “I think I know why they removed me. It’s because, well before the rally they told us that ‘you have to be enthusiastic, you have to be clapping, you have to be cheering for Donald Trump,’ and I wasn’t doing that because I wasn’t enthusiastic, I wasn’t happy with what he was saying,” he told CNN.

Will I never reach peak surprise with this clown? So the enthusiastic supporters are given red hats and told to be sufficiently excited. Take notice Spanky fans, this is what fake news looks like. Also, wtf is the secret service doing getting involved? their job is security, not propaganda.

This first thing I thought of was this sequence from V For Vendetta.

And here's a vid showing some of those who aren't enthusiastic enough getting replaced. To be fair, I doubt it would be much different with a Dem speaker. I'm surprised though that the girl on the right who wiped her nose with the flag was allowed to stay. I expected this to be quite offensive, certainly much more offensive than kneeling during the anthem.

Bush sr. had the nukes removed (Presidential Nuclear Initiative, 1991). He announced the US decision to "eliminate its entire worldwide inventory of ground-launched, short-range, that is, theater nuclear weapons.
