I wouldn't generalize this only for the US, violence against weaker elements is everywhere, especially where kindness is considered to be a weakness. And where decency gets defined by what people say, as opposed to what they actually do.

So what gives, America? Is it really populated by thousands of well-heeled perverts or what? Is this a class thing? A culture thing? A puritan thing? | | | | | It is, in part, their perverse concept of morality.
The wanton destruction, loss of lives and human misery in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Gaza, Yemen etc. etc. is OK and having touched a woman's tit many decades ago is not.
Anyway, irrespective of all the issues about whether Kavanaugh is good candidate for the supreme court or whether professor Ford is a credible witness, one thing is encouraging to see. That is that some of the destructive energies of that country are being focused inwards and dissipated in this circus performance. Hopefully, that means less remaining destructive energy left its global rampage.

But maybe better that way. Drunk under 21 soldiers going on their killing sprees

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | "should be taken as witness testimony." actually of little value without the opportunity to cross examine?
cf. Ford was cross examined! | | | | | That's up to the commission to decide, isn't it. And I wouldn't call the risk of perjury (if Judge lied in his letter) of little value.

I lost count of how many times a guy grabbed my butt or my breasts just to see how I'd react, both in high school and uni. Not just me, pretty much every gal I knew.
At uni, the frat boys would regularly put up fake signs for the restrooms to trick the girls into going into someone's bedroom or the men's room, where they'd get groped. But I never witnessed anything "worse" if you want to call it that. My friends and I learned pretty quickly that the key to avoiding problems at parties was to A) not get so drunk we couldn't think straight and B) always go in pairs, even to the bathroom. My uni wasn't that bad. Some of my friends were issued rape whistles at 1st year orientation.

The FBI probably already has a file on Kavanaugh, and the scope of the investigation is limited. Objectifying? I dont think it is particularly yank. But acting upon it, impulsively, or turning it immaturely into some competition or prank, maybe actually is. But it is a known thing, no? That there are places where people stay kids longer...because they are treated by society as kids, really. Giving the youth responsibility early is, imho, good for the society as a whole.
I am not talking about healthily primal and grown up, consentual orgies, btw.

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President?
I watched this hearing today and I'm sure glad I don't have to decide on this. One thing is very clear: Kavanaugh does not want a FBI investigation, he clearly avoided and went all the way to refusing to answer straight forward questions about it.
Considering he's a judge I'm surprised how he handled this subject. Specially as he is very capable of giving clear, short answers to other questions.
I don't understand this system. Where I come from the allegations are heavy. They call for charge, trial and court ruling. They can't possibly neither give nor deny Kavanaugh the job without that. Politicians can not decide that! If they do, the US falls back deeply into dark ages.
As someone in that hearing said: There is no "right" to get the position in question. So I'd say someone could not be considered/nominated, due to unclear rumors and suspected misbehaviour but at this stage politics should step back and wait for court to sort this out.
What's happening at the moment is - to me - a farce, complete nonsense.
I try to imagine such discussions at the "Bundeshaus", broadcasted by Swiss TV - I fail.
