Growing tragedy | Quote: | | | | The Department of Homeland Security is running out of space at its detention facilities for families and unaccompanied children crossing over the US-Mexico border, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in an interview with CNN Friday.
"We've had a huge increase in families. ...What that means for us -- our facilities are out of space," Nielsen said.
Nielsen's comments come as the Trump administration is pushing to change regulations so it can detain families longer and arguing it needs funding for more detention space. | | | | | Source |

She was very ill advised by her counsellors or whatever is called that staff around them who help them choose their attires for official visits. I blame their ignorance on so many matters - it's scary sometimes. I don't see any evil intention, just an astonishing lack of certain knowledge.

Looks as though the Kavanaugh "debacle" has not helped Dems. The so called "Kavanaugh Collapse" has galvanized republicans according to recent polls. This website provides salient articles from both the right and left: https://www.realclearpolitics.com
That said, polling data not looking good for Dems (then again, when is polling data ever correct? - given Trump's presidential victory) Real Clear's poll is supposedly an average of all polling data available...
Interesting article on Trump by Andrew Sullivan in the New York Times Magazine (of all publications): http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/...lishments.html |

In 2010 when GOP won so many seats the average of the Generic Congressional Vote polls was +6.8 for the GOP.

There you will see recent polling stats. If you delve further into that polling link, you will see that there was a big jump after the Kavanaugh nomination and not in the Dem's favor. Hope this helps...

And the increase was not just in the Senate polls, but also in the House... Again, who exactly knows at the end of the day with polling stats but the trend is interesting! Time will tell on November 6th...

You will see that four out of the last 5 polls were above the RCP average for Dems so trend is in Dems favour | This user would like to thank marton for this useful post: | |

Amazing how fast politicians can reverse their principles! | Quote: | | | | Thirty-two of the 49 GOP incumbents in races deemed competitive by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report have backed congressional health care measures on pre-existing conditions in the past six weeks.
The moves, coming in the final weeks of the midterm campaign cycle, mark a course reversal for members of a party that for years railed against ObamaCare. | | | | | Source |

Andrew Brunson, the American pastor released recently from prison in Turkey, was paraded by Trump in front of the cameras in the Oval Office on Saturday. In response to a quick prayer from Brunson, Trump offered the following response by way of thanks: "Who did you vote for?"
Salient points:
i. Completely inappropriate, on many levels;
ii. Maybe someone should have briefed Trump that Brunson had been in prison in Turkey for the last two years—since a month before the US presidential election, to be precise.
I half expected Trump to pardon Turkey. He probably thinks that's the right thing for presidents to do around this time of year.

“Let’s make America great again by making Donald Trump a casino operator again.”
— Alec Baldwin
“Every day I wake up, I still am horrified,” he said. “I feel like I’m in some dream that Trump is president of the United States. I almost can’t even say it.”

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | The problem isn't necessarily his supposed accomplishments. If you throw a nuclear bomb with the objective to annihilate a continent, then sure, actually annihilating it will be an "accomplishment".
The problem is this (from the article): He has also shifted the entire polity more decisively toward the authoritarian style of government.
And how even the stupidest person fails to see that is utterly beyond me.
Too many Americans vote for a party independent on whether they actually agree with the main representative's policies. This is voting behavior circa 1910 and one would have expected people to be at least somewhat smarter these days - obviously not. As long as people vote Republican just because "they've always voted Republican" instead of looking at content, policy, direction, nothing will ever change. Same goes for Democratic, Greens or really anything else, of course.

But I fully agree, it was completly inappropriate.

The unprecedented move is seen as an effort to silence critics who claim Warren is fabricating Native American ancestry, including President Trump, who has repeatedly used the derogatory term “Pocahontas” to describe the senator. | | | | | Source
Meanwhile President Trump is making overtures to Democrats about working together next year, a move that would mark a major shift in his approach to dealing with Congress.
White House officials say they have begun preliminary talks internally — and with Democratic lawmakers — about areas where they could work together in 2019. Source
Good that even Trump recognises Realpolitik.
Might be with the Dems Trump could implement his campaign promises of rebuilding the US infrastructure; one of his campaign ideas that I really liked!
