| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | That would mean paying them properly. As we know, not even Trump wants to do that. | | | | | I think you hit at the "heart" of the issue Curley. Will US corporates be willing to pay their employees appropriately? If they, in an effort to cut costs, continue to underpay employees and outsource their labor overseas to enhance revenues, immigration will always pose a problem. I am not convinced that Trump is the source of the problem here but believe corporates bear the majority of the blame (anything to enhance their profit margins)... And that includes tax avoidance!

Not sure if this claim is true especially because of the variable spelling of Nobel; anyway I like the sentiment | | | | | According to Wiki, 6 of the 8 winners in 2017 are US-born, the other 2 German. Can't be bothered to check the 2018 winners. | Quote: | | | | | People generally aren't in a position to win a Nobel Prize when they are laying low, working off the books, not paying taxes, and hiding out from the INS.
. | | | | | Let me phrase it the other way round:
People with the potential to win a Nobel Prize will have no problems at all getting into the country and setting up residence legally.

People with the potential to win a Nobel Prize will have no problems at all getting into the country and setting up residence legally. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel declined on Sunday to address an incendiary immigration video shared last week by President Donald Trump, instead saying that, "we know good people are trying to come into the country, too."
The online video, which was tweeted by Trump last Wednesday, accuses Democrats, without evidence, of plotting to help people it depicts as Central American invaders overrun the nation with cop killers. | | | | | Source
Probably people from North Korea, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and Venezuela with the potential to win a Nobel Prize will have problems getting into the country and setting up residence legally.

If they come from a place on the negative radar they face enormous difficulties......but of course, Marton's generalisation refugees equals Nobel winners is also silly, even though yes, there were some cases. That's why every case should be judged separately, but Trump's collective bans are anything but a fair decision imho.

I am not convinced that Trump is the source of the problem here but believe corporates bear the majority of the blame (anything to enhance their profit margins)... And that includes tax avoidance! | | | | | This is exactly the problem. And, as I understand it, it extends to small employers paying laborers under the table for jobs that Americans don’t want like agriculture (picking fruit, etc). And sure, tax avoidance, avoiding onerous reporting, underpaying are all part of the employer’s game.
And no, Trump is not the root of the problem - it’s been around for ages. His rhetoric just exacerbates it, and Republicans (mostly) support the distraction. I honestly believe that in many cases, amnesty and going forward from there is the way to go. And before people go on about how their immigrant relatives came into the US legally, well, there are lots of blips and bobs for immigration over the last say, 125 years. I’m not sure all those immigrants had everything in order...and processes change.
I’ve been through US immigration - actually for my husband in 1998-2001. What a f**ked up system....fraught with error. We were lucky....only minor errors in our case, but what a nightmare! It needs to be repaired badly.

Tom | | | | | I'd have thought you'd correct that post to "66 years ago". Also, coincidentally, the last president born in the 19th century.

Not to digress.. But why not? Here is a consolidated report from Grassley regarding DR Ford's testimony (PS a conservative outlet but their findings are noteworthy): http://thefederalist.com/2018/11/05/...ughs-accusers/
And one asks, what exactly did Dr Ford have to gain by entering a false/"hazy" (I am giving her the benefit of the doubt here!) accusation? Well, her Go Fund Me Accounts are up over a million thus far and she still appeals for more funds given her hardships...WOW!! |

From your link Grassley's report is full of statements from people also unsupported by other witnesses including a claim that Kav's friend Judge lost his virginity around 1985 when “he and several other boys from Georgetown Prep took turns having sex with a woman who was drunk.”
