A U.S. appeals court has ruled that President Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is likely unlawful.

The decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocks Trump from terminating DACA protections for undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, upholding a lower court’s decision.

“The government may not simultaneously both assert that its actions are legally compelled, based on its interpretation of the law, and avoid review of that assertion by the judicial branch, whose ‘province and duty’ it is to say what the law is”

Any thoughts on how the next two years will pan out?

Obamacare repeal is now definitely off the table.

I always liked the idea of fixing the US infrastructure and probably the House will now be sympathetic to spending the money but likely the Senate will not?

Difficult to forecast where the abortion debate will finish up!

Social Security and Medicaid cuts will likely be stalled.

Changing libel laws is also off the table.

Building the wall is likely also off the table.

Cancelling all funding of sanctuary cities is unlikely.

I doubt "end birthright citizenship" will now happen?

Trump's tax returns will be released.
Pity, they were all great ideas.

Ending birthright citizenship would require either a change to the Constitution or for the Supreme Court to totally reverse years of precedent and decide the wording in the Constitution means something else entirely.

Trump ain't gonna release his returns.

Keep your eyes on the Supreme Court. RBG is 85 and was hospitalized after breaking ribs in a fall. If we lose another justice during Trump's term, the Senate has the votes to get a replacement through without a lot of fuss. That tips the Court even further and imo not in a good direction.

He said “It’s illegal. And it means that anything Mr. Whitaker does, or tries to do, in that position is invalid.”
Apparently that's because Whitaker was never confirmed to any office by the Senate, as is required by the Appointments Clause. Yates took over for Lynch, but she'd been confirmed by the Senate twice for different offices.

One wonders if the Senate leadership will weigh in on this or if they'll continue to let Trump go his merry way and see how it winds up in the courts.

I doubt the Senate leadership will weigh in on this, why rock the boat; plenty of groups ready to go to court?

I am sure the House can dream up a reason to subpoena Trump for his tax returns; Trump would fight that.

Presumably Mueller and so also the FBI have Trump's tax returns obtained direct from the IRS; probably a better route for the House would be to find a reason to get them from the FBI. It is not like they are classified documents.

GOP have the 51 seat majority in the Senate but other seats that seemed to be GOP are tending towards Dem as vote counting continues in Arizona and Florida.
Mississippi is headed towards a run off expected to be won by GOP.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Senator Flake is trying to protect Mueller and the investigation with a Senate motion.

Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

Jeff Flake(y) doesn’t want to protect the Non-Senate confirmed Special Counsel, he wants to protect his future after being unelectable in Arizona for the “crime” of doing a terrible job!
A weak and ineffective guy!
Funny how Trump picks up phrases and uses them completely out of context!

Special Counsel is not a Senate confirmed post!

Also how the idea that Flake will protect his future with this Senate motion is somewhat less than obvious?

President Trump was heavily involved during his presidential campaign in silencing the stories of women who claimed to have extramarital affairs with him, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal that contradicts repeated denials from Trump.

Federal prosecutors have gathered evidence that Trump worked with his friend and media executive David Pecker to use the National Enquirer tabloid to buy the silence of adult-film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, according to interviews the Journal had with three dozen people with knowledge of the transactions.

President Macron of France has just suggested that Europe build its own military in order to protect itself from the U.S., China and Russia.
Very insulting, but perhaps Europe should first pay its fair share of NATO, which the U.S. subsidizes greatly!
Edit; British anti-Trump activists are lending their French counterparts the biggest weapon in their anti-Trump arsenal: the baby Trump blimp, made famous in the UK this year during Trump's summer visit.
A French group calling itself Trump Means War plans to fly the blimp as close as it can to the somber commemoration at the Arc de Triumph in the center of Paris.

While top defense and diplomatic officials from the US and China were speaking at a joint press conference on Friday, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro was busy making headlines on trade, not security issues.

Speaking at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Trump administration’s most vocal champion of protectionist trade policies warned Wall Street executives against interfering in negotiations with China, calling them “foreign agents.”

“As part of a Chinese government influence operation these globalist billionaires are putting a full-court press on the White House in advance of the G20 in Argentina,” Navarro told the audience at the think tank in Washington DC.

“The mission of these unregistered foreign agents is to pressure this president into some kind of deal,

The often conflicting sources make it difficult for China to find a way forward, additionally despite the US trade tariffs there are further complications from the fact that China exports to US are at record highs while US exports to China are declining.

Democrats made massive gains in statehouses in Tuesday's midterm elections, reversing an imbalance that had grown under former President Barack Obama's tenure and given Republicans much more power at the state level.

Though ballots are still being counted in some states and recounts are possible in close races, Democrats appear on track for a net gain of about 300 state legislative seats.

The party also claimed seven governors' offices that had been in Republican hands

The wins mean Democrats now control the governorships of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania -- the three "blue wall" states that delivered Donald Trump the presidency in 2016.
