Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Seems Trump is giving us some insight into his strategy to stop the Special Counsel.

Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

Jeff Flake(y) doesn’t want to protect the Non-Senate confirmed Special Counsel, he wants to protect his future after being unelectable in Arizona for the “crime” of doing a terrible job! A weak and ineffective guy!
There was some debate as to whether Mueller's role was a senior role that needed to be confirmed by the Senate.
Generally people thought the fact that he reported to Rosenstein who was confirmed by the Senate protected him.

Now Trump has appointed Whitaker as acting Attorney General and put Whitaker in charge of Mueller instead of Rosenstein.

So now we have a Non-Senate confirmed Special Counsel reporting to a Non-Senate confirmed acting Attorney General.
If Whitaker is left in place, and Trump has said there is “no rush” to fill the post permanently, the court could conclude that Mueller is now exercising powers reserved to confirmed “principal officers.”
He could be barred from exercising those powers until an attorney general is nominated and confirmed.

Source

Of course, it may be too late. Especially if Mueller repeats his trick of handing cases over to other FBI offices.
The major open point that we know exists in the probe is that Mueller has not yet interviewed Trump!

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

French President Emmanuel Macron tore into “nationalism” in an apparent jab at President Trump during his Armistice Day remarks in Paris.

Speaking Sunday at the Arc de Triomphe beside Trump and other world leaders, Macron decried nationalism as “a betrayal of patriotism.”

“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism,” Macron said. “Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism. By saying our interests first... we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace, and what is essential: its moral values."

Just posting this for anyone who may be interested. This is Van Jones' 45min interview with Jared Kushner last month. I found it to be an interesting insight.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is facing accusations that she shared an edited video of the exchange between CNN correspondent Jim Acosta and an administration aide at President Trump's post-midterm news conference on Wednesday.

Source
Seems the White House position now is that the video was not altered, just sped up
Quote:
"By that do you mean sped up?" Conway said. "Well that's not altered. That's sped up.
They do it all the time in sports to see if there's actually a first down or a touch down."

Actually the opposite; in sport they slow down the videos to check difficult points, not speed them up

Has the so called patriotic front that supports Trump already come up with an excuse why he didn't attend the event to honour the dead of WW1?

Rain. Or maybe some technical issues with the chopper but the claim was rain/clouds/winds making it not possible to fly Marine One.

Nevermind that he brought over The Beast and it was only a 50-mile drive. The claim is that they couldn't arrange a motorcade on such short notice.

I think he wanted to sleep in and stay warm.

From your link.

"The US president and his wife arrived separately to the other world leaders for security reasons."

All the other world leaders walked to the event in the rain with humility.
Trump was driven there.

That's not entirely correct as Putin arrived separately too.

The others are not world leaders

The claim is that they couldn't arrange a motorcade on such short notice.
And there was no contingency plan? For the President of the United States, in Paris, in autumn... nobody thought, "Hmmm, there's a high chance of rain in November, what if the chopper can't fly?"

I bet there's more thought given to alternatives if Trump can't fly to his round of golf than to this trip to honour the fallen servicemen about whom Trump professes to care so much.

Chief of staff John Kelly and Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made the trip instead via motorcade.

I think the official line is 'it was 50 miles away, it was raining and it's only dead soldiers'

the party that supports the military is awfully quiet when their prez can't be bothered commemorating them, attacks goldstar families, insults veterans and doesn't learn the names of the fallen before calling their widows. And really, would it have killed him to wear a black tie? classless clown.

Of course the leader of the world's most powerful nation is not allowed out when it is raining.

Perhaps he was also making a subtle point, as "États" was missing from the caption....
