Shocking and ironic, particularly considering her anti-bullying campaign.

Following Session's firing President Trump appears poised to make more high-level staff changes in his administration.
He can't stand any criticism. No-one 100% loyal around...

I might be mis-reading you, so apologies if I go off into left field, but...

[...]

Using your definition, he didn't "win the popular vote" in the primaries although all the news sources report it that way.
You're reading me correctly. And yes, by electors I mean the Electoral College electors.

My point is that the POTUS needs the absolute majority of the electors in order to be voted into office directly. That requirement gives rise to the argument that the same measure should be used WRT the popular vote, assuming one wanted to assign any meaning to that result in the first place - to some extent a silly undertaking exactly due to the effect you mention for California as that makes campaigning in an already-secured state mostly a waste of time and money for both candidates. If the popular vote had meaning every candidate would campaign in a (probably much) different way.

The requirement to win the presidential primaries is different. However I think it makes little sense in this case to call any result a popular vote because the voter pool is far less than the population.

During his campaign he said he would surround himself with the best people.
Problem is such people have their own opinions and soon clash with Trump; then their tenure is short and their reputations shredded by tweet.

Good people quickly got the message and have no enthusiasm to join the White House. Add to that who wants to take a loyalty test to Trump?

Plus the fact that loyalty is a two way street except in the Trump world; look at Sessions who was the first GOP senator to support Trump!

U.S. Said to Hold Off on Car Tariffs for Now

So far Trump's tariffs on China have resulted in record Chinese exports to the US, falls in US exports to China and large falls in the US and Chinese stock markets.
Law of unexpected consequences strikes again!

If the US does impose car tariffs then the immediate consequence will be higher prices of US cars; even for US car manufacturers as the tariffs will likely hit car parts imports. US built cars use 40% or more imported parts.
US customers are unlikely to respond well to higher car prices.

How did they know the totals were incorrect? Or did the machines go up in blue smoke?

More Friday stuff!

George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, has organized a group with the goal of urging fellow conservative lawyers to speak out against the Trump administration's actions.

“We believe in the rule of law, the power of truth, the independence of the criminal justice system, the imperative of individual rights and the necessity of civil discourse,” the group, Check and Balances, said in a mission statement. “We believe these principles apply regardless of the party or persons in power.”

I believe they have calibration votes that they feed into the machines. Or maybe "incorrect" means too many dem votes.

CNN sues President Trump and top White House aides for barring Jim Acosta as White House Press representative for CNN.

Source

Pass the popcorn!

I do not know if this approach could be successful but it will certainly keep the issue in front of the voters.
There was a court filing by the Justice Department on Wednesday responding to the CNN suit.
The filing quotes a tweet by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders in which she announced the suspension of Acosta's pass and saying his "conduct is absolutely unacceptable." But they left out the claim that Acosta was "placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern."

Source

This "placing his hands on a young woman" [false] claim does not appear anywhere in the Government filing. What a bunch of bankers

Other news organizations are now standing with CNN.
In a statement Wednesday, The Associated Press, Bloomberg, First Look Media, Fox News, Gannett, NBC News, The New York Times, Politico, USA Today and The Washington Post, among others, said, "Whether the news of the day concerns national security, the economy, or the environment, reporters covering the White House must remain free to ask questions.
It is imperative that independent journalists have access to the President and his activities, and that journalists are not barred for arbitrary reasons.
Our news organizations support the fundamental constitutional right to question this President, or any President.
We will be filing friend-of-the-court briefs to support CNN's and Jim Acosta's lawsuit based on these principles."

Depends on the machine and on the procedures in place. Apparently these machines can only count one race at a time (which is utterly stupid for a place that handles so many ballots).

Normally you'd test the machine with known test ballots - for example 100 ballots with 50 marked for Mickey Mouse and 50 for Donald Duck. If the result comes out right, you run the real ballots.

When you run the real ballots, it's best to do in stacks of even numbers (like 100) and check how things are adding up as you go along.

"Incorrect totals" is pretty vague language. I'll guess that they knew the original count showed X total votes for the senate race and the overheating caused the machine to over or under-count.

Florida's mess in 2000 is why we have electronic equipment as opposed to strictly paper ballots (remember hanging chads?), and they still can't get their sh*t together.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) lost his seat to Democratic challenger Andy Kim on Wednesday, resulting in a near-wipeout for the GOP in the state.

Source

With MacArthur's loss, Democrats successfully flipped four Republican seats in New Jersey in the midterm elections this year, some of which had been held by the GOP for decades.

Despite the fuss over election counting in Arizona and Florida and associated alleged fraud there are plenty of other places still peacefully (and so far allegation free) mid term vote counting!

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Emmanuel Macron's spokesman accused Donald Trump of lacking "common decency" Wednesday after the US President blasted his French counterpart in a series of tweets following his visit to Paris.

During a pointed speech at the Elysée Palace in Paris, Benjamin Griveaux took issue with the timing of Trump's barbs on Tuesday, the same day the country marked the anniversary of the 2015 terror attacks in Paris which left 130 people dead.

Another down day for the major US stock indices, they all dipped down below their 1.Jan.2018 position then recovered slightly but well down on the day.

Still some weeks to go to year end before we can conclude this was a good or bad year for the Market under Trump.
