Tangentially related, but I'm hoping a few people saw the Shapiro temper tantrum with Andrew Neil...then storming off after calling Andrew a "lefty". He's certainly an "intellectual" worth listening to.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The Washington Post reported Friday that plans are in the works for Trump to address the nation from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on July 4th, while moving the city's traditional fireworks display from the steps of the Capitol Reflecting Pool to nearby West Potomac Park.

An official with Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser's (D) administration who own the display panned the reported July 4 plans in a statement to the Post.

Is the 4th now going to be the Trump of July?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Panic in the White House, over 70 tweets yesterday. Actually mostly a long string of retweets; maybe the poor old guy pushed the wrong button!

Another ex Trump employee got trashed! Why do they want to work for this guy, I suppose it is the "won't happen to me" syndrome?

I was NOT going to fire Bob Mueller, and did not fire Bob Mueller. In fact, he was allowed to finish his Report with unprecedented help from the Trump Administration.
Actually, lawyer Don McGahn had a much better chance of being fired than Mueller. Never a big fan!
"unprecedented help from the Trump Administration." from the man who refused to be interviewed or to answer all the written questions!

Import tariffs are always paid for by the importer regardless of who that is, it is supposed to make it less attractive to import such goods while benefitting markets without such extra tariffs like the own internal market. Effected importers surely pass on the price, tho often only partially in an attempt to not lose to much of their total sales numbers and in the meanwhile the effected exporting country loses money and jobs.

C'mon people this is basic knowledge and should not even be a point of discussion.

Of course this is basic knowledge. The point that marton has made repeatedly is that Trump does not possess this basic knowledge. Trump has even stated that China has been paying billions to the US in tariffs. He is totally clueless.

It appears that the US tariffs are having little to no effect on imports from China. I don't know whether the retaliatory Chinese tariffs have slowed imports into China from the US.

And again
Quote:

We are right where we want to be with China. Remember, they broke the deal with us & tried to renegotiate.
We will be taking in Tens of Billions of Dollars in Tariffs from China.
Buyers of product can make it themselves in the USA (ideal), or buy it from non-Tariffed countries
We will then spend (match or better) the money that China may no longer be spending with our Great Patriot Farmers (Agriculture), which is a small percentage of total Tariffs received, and distribute the food to starving people in nations around the world!
GREAT! #MAGA
Trump still does not get that it is a tax on US consumers, not a revenue flow from China.

Edit: the retaliatory Chinese tariffs have destroyed the US soyabean business; down from 28 million tons in 2017 to 8 million in 2018. In 2019 they only imported 3% vs the same period in 2018.

Stock markets crashing down world wide due to Trump's trade war; no doubt Trump will pull a solution out of the bag

Meanwhile in a great example of karma "White House decries investigations by House Democrats, says they are not following 'rules and norms'"

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump doubles down with incomprehensible tweets today containing nonsensical "reasons"...

An example!
Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

(sic)Their is no reason for the U.S. Consumer to pay the Tariffs, which take effect on China today.
This has been proven recently when only 4 points were paid by the U.S., 21 points by China because China subsidizes product to such a large degree...........
Points? WTF?

& more
Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

The unexpectedly good first quarter 3.2% GDP was greatly helped by Tariffs from China. Some people just don’t get it!
The poor old guy is in his alternative world!

30 Trump tweets and retweets on China since talks collapsed on May 10!

Hot from the Press!
Beijing says today that it will set new tariffs of between 5% and 25% on $60bn of US imports.

The move will hit around 5,000 products, it says.

U.S. looking a lot like a failed state just now, failed like Spankys failed businesses.

You don't exactly have to embrace socialism, promote abortion, go vegan and stop shooting up schools to think that maybe it might be a good idea if elected officials and their appointees obeyed the law.

Yeah reids. Would a failed state have the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world, or one of the worst inequality rates in all of the developed world? Get a grip.

Should add rates of alcoholism to your list, and you’ll find Scotland near the top. Run by National Socialists too. There’s a failed state we can all agree on.

Opioid crisis! 70,000 drug overdose deaths in the US in 2017; the sharpest increase occurred among deaths related to fentanyl and fentanyl analogs (other synthetic narcotics) with more than 28,400 overdose deaths.
Source

Trump did commit to fix this problem

North America continues to experience the highest drug-related mortality rate in the world, accounting for 1-in-4 drug-related deaths globally.

So if I'm understanding this, your rebuttal to my point that the US looks like a failed state is to say I'm crazy and Scotland is full of alcoholic nazis?

I'm err not really sure where to go with that.
