What does the "greatest commander in chief of all times" need a defence secretary for anyway?

President Trump said Thursday that he believes Iran mistakenly shot down the US drone, saying he finds it "hard to believe it was intentional."

"Probably Iran made a mistake. I would imagine it was a general or somebody who made a mistake in shooting that drone down," Trump said.

"I find it hard to believe it was intentional. I think it could've been somebody that was loose and stupid," Trump said. "It was a very foolish move, that I can tell you."

Trump assured that the situation is "all going to work out."
Trump likes to portray himself as a tough guy and sends out tweets with aggressive rhetoric but when it comes to a real critical situation that needs strong Presidential action then he walks away.

Same when N. Korea resumed missile testing he just said something like "Kim is his friend".

Typical keyboard warrior. :(

I'm not sure, I can't imagine he would have any hesitation in laying down other men's lives if he thought it made him look better on the world stage, instead of the out-of-his-depth clown he is typically portrayed as, and that by those with first hand experience.

Remember the sum total of his military experience is dodging the draft, he knows he'll be out of harms way whatever happens, he doesn't care if others lose lives or limbs.

I was not advocating war when I wrote "strong Presidential action" I was thinking more of phoning the Ayatollah and laying down red lines rather than tweeting. I doubt he is really strong in one to one meetings which is why his meetings with Kim, Putin and Ki were not witnessed or documented.

I can't say that I would have been against Iran being declawed as a major regional power.

However, major retaliation for an unmanned drone is a tad excessive.

Totally agree. Did you see Lindsay Graham's interview? He's in favor of a huge military strike of some sort to "inflict serious pain".

Even more so as the US shot down civilian jet Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988 in the Strait of Hormuz, killing all 290 civilians on board. The two countries reached some kind of agreement, some millions were paid, but still.

Can't disagree with that, he's been shown to be a pussy one on one, he can't even fire people orange face to face, so does it by proxy.

Hi supporters think the Apprentice was real life so to them, yes.

If you can think for yourself then, well you can work that bit out :)

Trump threatened “fire and fury” against North Korea, hinted at military action in Venezuela and warned that he could bring about the “official end of Iran but he always backed off.
I appreciate him not starting wars but his failure to back up his fiery rhetoric risks he will not be taken seriously in future; best would be if he dropped the fiery rhetoric and reverted to normal diplomacy!

President Trump announced he would delay an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation that would have deported as many as 2,000 migrant families for two weeks.

The plan, which was first reported this week, was set to involve predawn raids Sunday morning in cities with major immigrant communities such as Houston, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. The operation would target migrant families who have already received deportation orders.

I am glad they delayed this deportation but Trump has again demonstrated he is just a bag of wind!

The law of unintended consequences seems to be working well for the trade war with China!

Vietnam’s trade with the United States rose to $24.06 billion through the first four months of 2019, according to a WorldCity analysis of latest U.S. Census Bureau data, U.S. imports from Vietnam rose 38.35 percent.

The U.S. deficit with Vietnam was $17.33 billion.

Taiwan and Cambodia imports also up over 20% in the same period also with growing trade gaps.

Tucker Carlson criticizes Trump left, right and center for getting the US within minutes of war with Iran over the drone shootdown.

Weird times indeed.

Think about it: they'll be making documentaries about this in fifty or sixty years, when the files are declassified - just like the Cuban Missile Crisis.

This time, we are witnessing it ourselves. We've even got front-row seats, if you want to see it that way.

Well, provided we make it to the next decade. At all.

Weird indeed, some media claim "Fox News' Tucker Carlson Reportedly at Center of Trump's Decision Not to Bomb Iran".
If true, do more of the same.

Leaving aside the over over weird that a US President gets most of his intelligence briefings, advice and direction from Fox News hosts.

Some media are advancing the theory that the Iran and deportation policy reversals are due to Trumps concerns about 2020 reelection.
They say that images of dead Iranian civilians being carried from burning buildings or screaming women and children dragged from homes of illegal immigrants would be negative for him. Agreed 2020 election is a long way away but such images can be kept and replayed by rivals on the campaign trail.

A more extreme theory is that Trump would be the last Republican President!! Based on the fact that firstly he has destroyed the GOP image as the party of Fiscal thrift; he has increased the national Debt by more than $2 Trillion and is on track to increase it by more than Obama did despite claiming on the campaign trail he would wipe it out!

Also he has reinforced the GOP image as a party that is anti-colour, anti-gay, anti-LGBT and anti-women. Just look at all the photos he tweets of himself surrounded by white males.

Of course the economy is doing well under Trump although wage increases are still minimal. Other than the 2017 tax cuts, it is not obvious what Trump does/did to improve the economy.

Why would anyone think that.

Maybe the strategy is just to put Tucker in the spotlight more, he totally deserves high credit.
