Re: LDL cholesterol risk has been exaggerated?

Highly disputed by other cardiologists who accuse them of using misleading evidence and/or picking only what supports their conclusions. There's significant contradictions in their own conclusions (the Mediterranean diet they recommend is low in saturated fats).

However...this is also not the first time I've seen this suggested. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle so don't go back to eating lard just yet.

Re: LDL cholesterol risk has been exaggerated?

This is just one of several changes in established views about the health benefits, or dangers, of various foods. The question is, are these just down to increased knowledge due to medical science developments or were people deliberately misled?

Some people do say that the food industry and pharmaceutical companies have had a vested interest in exaggerating claims to suit their interests. With many medical research establishments receiving external funding, it is difficult to know who is truly independent.

I go along the lines of everything in moderation. e.g. If fats are not as harmful as previously thought, that isn't a reason to eat them to excess.

Nope, but that seems niiiice

I don't follow these hypes of healthy not healthy well maybe healthy after all. My body seems to know best so if it wants something, it gets it. As someone already pointed out: Don't eat the same thing all the time. Fat is actually important for you ... no you probably shouldn't cover the entire amount needed by eating French fries and pastizzi but treating yourself to it every now and then won't kill 'ya either.
In general I don't eat what makes me think it's not good for me the moment I eat it.
