The comments on this thread with the exception of a few sensible ones demonstrates the maturity level of the average EF member and probably the attitude of many Europeans who see tragedies happening elsewhere as a joking matter. Shame on you lot!
I agree fully with your comment.

The World (and, especially the average EFer) are having to cope with so much at the moment. I personally cannot keep-up, and am also having problems facing the current headlines each morning before tackling the average day.

The tradition in the U.K. is to create humour when things get too tough, among other such self-defence mechanisms. This is a great strategy, but only when placed within the right context.

The heatwave here hasn't helped I suspect.

Re: Shocking news!

1) I like dark humour but this attempt is about as lame an attempt as it gets.
2) It's probably a bit too soon to be making fun of three kids (and the two adults who tried to save them) who died tragically in great pain a mere day after it happened. That in itself strips any last vestiges of humour away.

A pun is hardly the same as making fun of dead kids.

Have personally been electrocuted many dozens of times over the years, of up to 600 VDC, 400 VAC, and some bursts of a few tens of KV, I sort of find it funny, particularly as I am still around to tell the tale(s).

Tom
Multiple minor electric shocks = sort of funny (apparently).

Three children and two adults killed by electrocution = no laughing matter.

Except when the pun makes fun of dead children.

Meanwhile, hahahahaha, at least 140 are probably dead in China following a huge landslide, and hilariously, it looks like the Grenfell Tower death toll is set to exceed 80.

Electrocution implies death (electro - execution).

You were shocked, not electrocuted.

Re: Shocking news!

I was in an Austrian hotel with my little one several years ago, when she was about 6, and could swim well from about 3. We were in a very small indoor pool having fun, and then suddenly I saw her having problems.

I grasped for her - she was of course always within arms reach, and found myself being sucked-under a draining system that was almost impossible to free myself from. I'm a strong swimmer, and the pool was so shallow, but it was still incredibly difficult to get out of the suction.

Not a laughing issue, really.

Electrocution implies death.
Actually, it doesn't.

Most people just think that it does.

Not according to the OED

And if you work with electricity it isn't even used to mean "at least an injury". "Getting a touch" isn't necessarily an injury (not particularly enjoyable or advisable, but still).

Now that's just plain nasty.

You called me immature for making a pun, but now you wish death on people.

Shame on you

Now please, relax, enjoy the nice weather, smile, etc.

Actually, I'm not.

Not that you would notice.

I don't think you're a waste of oxygen. Banworthy, but you've a right to live.
