Beam me down Scotty

Scientists Teleport Particle Into Space, Marking Major Breakthrough. In a major breakthrough for quantum physics, the experiment involved Chinese scientists who sent a photon into Earth’s orbit, the longest distance that scientists have been able to accomplish.
Rather than actually transporting the object itself over long distances, the type of teleportation that the researchers used involves “quantum entanglement.”

Source

I have always though that “quantum entanglement” could be the foundation for faster than light communication which would solve one of the key problems in interstellar travel.

That would be the ultimate goal, however if we can´t build ships that can go faster than light it´s a moot point.
And by the way why do you wish to be beamed down Scotty?

What benefit is faster than light communication over, for example, an SMS?

"Hoi, we'll be there in 100 years. Put the kettle on. xoxo, Grandma and Grampa."

We could teleport a house-fly that looks a bit like Jeff Goldblum?

Re: Beam me down Scotty

The U.S Military has been doing this for a few decades now. The last I heard (sometime in the 90's) they could destruct a object but could not entirely put it back together without it fusing with another object in the room. I'm sure they have advanced since then but it will be a few more decades before disclosure.

Re: Beam me down Scotty

So they've now been successful in teleporting one photon?

I heard... from the horses mouth... that for the next stage they are going to try and double that...and try to teleport California Dreamer's brain.
