Burning man, anybody we know?

Quote:
The Pershing County Sheriff's Office says the man who died after he ran into the flames of the Burning Man festival's giant wooden effigy of a man was a U.S. citizen who had a home in Oklahoma but apparently was living in Switzerland with his wife.
Looks like he thought he was fireproof. Burning Man indeed.

Re: Burning man, anybody we know?

indeed. Wow, if it's the same guy as I found on LinkedIn it makes one wonder what happened. His LinkedIn profile shows a clean-cut businessman with a solid education and military background. Most of the media pics show a laughing hippie-type photo. Intentional to make him look like a nutter, I wonder?

Do people just lose their minds at this festival or something? So sad for his family and for the rescuers that tried to help him. What a trauma.

Re: Burning man, anybody we know?

According to Swiss news he lived in Thurgau.

Absolutely awful. To do something like that he must have been in a very bad state of mind.

The article mentions that he worked in construction - there must have been more than one American with that name here in CH.

Odds are pretty high that he was on hallucinogenic drugs of some sort, given the nature of the festival.

tragic.

This article has more info:

'Rangers who work the event are told in advance to look out for three kinds of people likely to rush toward the fire: people trying to get attention, people who are on drugs or intoxicated and don't understand the danger, and the suicidal. '

Re: Burning man, anybody we know?

Right before the guy ran straight into the fire, somebody was heard asking him "What's a good salary in Switzerland?"

Re: Burning man, anybody we know?

video here:

It looks like he was disoriented, and for some reason turned and ran straight into the fire. He was lying in there for maybe 30 seconds before the firemen could get him out..

It's not the first time something like this has happened. At a smaller burning man type event a few years ago :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdeeY3ZUUUk

If you have thousands of spaced out hippies on drugs, worshipping a huge bonfire, a few are bound to imagine themselves as moths.
