RIP Tom Petty

The Heartbreaker and Traveling Wilbury has died at the young age of 66. Yet another of the big names of music that I grew up with has passed too soon.

RIP.

Re: RIP Tom Petty

The scourge of social media and instant news made the reporting of his passing into the proverbial dog's dinner, "Tom Petty has died age 66", "Oh wait, he's still hanging on..." "Tom Petty has died age 66".

Jeezus.

Yes, he only died at 5:40 this morning (Swiss time), but I first heard that he died around 10PM last night.

Or he finally did back down.

I was never a huge fan, but have realised that several tracks that I really like were: "Oh, so that's Tom Petty is it?"

Re: RIP Tom Petty

After a day full of shitty news, I have to admit this was the shittiest news of the day. I still have the Damn the Torpedoes album that I stole from my sister back in the day.

My favorite TP tune:

IMO these doctors need to be held accountable. No one should be prescribing that kind of cocktail.

True, although is it possible that he was prescribed drugs from multiple sources, e.g., without coordination of care. It is a big problem in the US. I guess I don‘t understand the compulsion to perform with a fractured hip. Wouldn’t fans rather have him around longer than to play in such painful circumstances?

The show must go on.

I saw Fun Lovin' Criminals when Huey was in plaster up to his knee and came on stage on crutches.
