Obviously not a crime, but anything that makes a person 'sexually' uncomfortable can be considered sexual harassment, and accusing someone of sexual harassment will gain media coverage and most likely kill the accused career.

We have a guy that comes into our office who talks to women's chests . To be fair, I wouldn't report him for a "crime", it just comes across as a bit tragic. He's helplessly (and hilariously) unaware of it, too.

After he'd been at our place for a meeting he was saying his goodbyes to us, saying he had to be off for his next appointment when one of my female colleagues asked him "Oh, is it in Bubikon (emphasis on the Boooooby-kon)?" He just looked confused and said, "No, Oerlikon."

Re: When You Wish Upon a Weinstein

Is there a reason why Weinstein had to announce the time and place he was going to hand himself in? I would have thought a randomly chosen cop shop at 02:00 would be a better option

Re: When You Wish Upon a Weinstein

I don't think Weinstein stands much of a chance, especially if other accusers are allowed to add their voices in court, as in the Cosby case. The New York Police Department is apparently thanking "these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice" (source). Not much neutrality there.

Can't help but wonder if the idea that little boys are frogs and snails (i.e. males are essentially horrible and dishonourable) and little girls are sugar and spice (i.e. females are essentially nice and honourable) is helping to drive the #metoo movement.

Lawyer for the monster:

"The casting couch in Hollywood was not invented by Harvey Weinstein."

Really hope he ends up in a state penitentiary but I am doubtful - shame since he'd likely be killed behind bars but not before repeatedly having done to him what he has done to countless others

Arrested in a nice photo op but little coverage of him posting bail and being released a few hours later - meanwhile in the same court room misdemeanor offenses were held without bail. Justice in America

That's a can of worms you've opened there, my friend.

I think it comes down to being dignified and responsible. I see your point that women who dress scantily can be sexually provoking and I realize men who are aroused can be incredibly stupid in their remarks and actions. I guess for women it's a matter of being aware that how you dress can have an effect so be prepared to deal with it.

As for wearing "no knickers with a skirt," that's poor judgement on a woman's part. However, there is never an excuse for sexual harrassment. Never.

Morgan Freeman now in the firing line. It seems the ball was set rolling by a CNN journalist. She speaks in the video attached to this link. Footage of part of the offending comment can be heard starting at 4 mins 25 secs followed by a woman's laugh (apparently the journalist herself).

Women accuse Morgan Freeman of inappropriate behavior, harassment

Of course not, you're a white (you are, aren't you?) male. Only women can play the sexual harrassment card (and make a few millions off it). olygirls closing line is a very clear demonstration for that approach.

So suck it up puppet.

"Excuse" and "reason" are two different things and in an ideal world sexual harrassment would not exist. As we all know, this is not an ideal world and never has been, so if for example a woman chooses to wear a short skirt and no underwear then she should be fully aware that she is generating a very real risk (especially in situations involving alcohol) that some men will at least look, others are likely to comment directly to her, and in the worst case others will be driven to touch or worse.

That is the world we live in and to pretend otherwise is just naive and foolish in the extreme. Just as there is no "excuse" for any man harassing a woman (or vice versa) there is also no "excuse" for not being fully aware of the effect that how you dress has on the opposite sex. Overt displays of sexuality often provoke a primeval, unconscious reaction in people who are frustrated or aggressive and that is a dark side of humanity that everyone should take into account with their dress and behaviour, especially women who are more physically vulnerable than men.

Re: When You Wish Upon a Weinstein

What I never understood is why it has taken so long for Weinstein to face any kind of official action? Seems like he was just in and out of rehab for about 9 months.

Why is that?

Because building a case and gathering solid and consistent evidence against rich and powerful people that will stand up in court takes time?

I think you (the police/the prosecution) need to show evidence to convince a judge to actually be able to press charges and go to court, no?

Great! Imprison everybody as soon as accusations by any John Doe or Jane Que have been raised. Destroy their familiy and economic life just because on an envious neighbor's report.

Talk about rule of the mob. Now that would be some business model!

Well, that has all been taken care of for Weinstein, without imprisonment. Hasn't it.

Would stripping off and getting into a hot tub with Harvey Weinstein* and turning up virtually naked to the MTV awards the following year count?

* According to her former manager, McGowan admitted this in an e-mail: Rose McGowan’s Ex-Manager Jill Messick Commits Suicide
According to McGowan, Weinstein undressed her: Rose McGowan Responds to Weinstein’s Rape Claim Denial: ‘The Gaslighting Will No Longer Be Tolerated’

Quote:

I wouldn't have said this scandal was funny in terms of being humorous but it's certainly odd. The idea that he had committed low level if unpleasant offences and no-one had reported him to police and/or others had brushed it off as "just Harvey" is plausible, but rape? Would rape victims take a settlement? Rose McGowan is not credible, in my view.

1997: "In 1997, Mr. Weinstein reached a settlement with the actor Rose McGowan after an episode in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival." (New York Times)
1998: she turns up virtually naked to the MTV awards
2007: stands smiling next to Harvey Weinstein at a film premiere (BBC)
2011: gives an interview where she responds as follows to a comment about the director of her latest film: "Interviewer: Well, Salva is a convicted and registered sex offender, which might account for some social awkwardness.
Rose McGowan: Yeah, I still don’t really understand the whole story or history there, and I’d rather not, because it’s not really my business. But he’s an incredibly sweet and gentle man, lovely to his crew, and a very hard worker."
(source)
2015 interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDKlrey9ETc
2018: her autobiography "Brave" is due out (HarperCollins)

The idea that he had been abusing his power to exploit women is disturbing but it is also disturbing that people in Hollywood are being pressurised to get in line and condemn - when he hasn't even seen the inside of a court room yet. Oliver Stone attempted to urge caution by saying that Weinstein "should not be condemned by a vigilante system" - and was promptly accused of groping by a former Playboy playmate. Many of these women are no doubt telling the truth about Weinstein but with no need for evidence other than a person's word and the ease with which a story already published online could be copied, there is every possibility of a bandwagon effect with opportunists jumping aboard in the hope of media payouts and/or compensation through a court case.
