Because coups only ever result in better conditions for a country's inhabitants. Even those of a country as screwed-up as Zimbabwe.

I guess the prospect of Mugabe's wife continuing the dynasty was just too much to bear. 37 years of Mugabe was OK, but Grace??!?!?!

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

Though it is being said that the military leader who is being seen as potential leader of the coup is on record for saying he is disappointed that Mugabe is softening up and criticised him for replacing one of his cronies by a younger and more open minded person.

So such a coup could well be a step in the wrong direction.

Be careful what you wish for.

Oh, yes roll on grace. Real grace. An attitude of grace. A willingness to approach others with compassion, mercy and respect. Just please not Grace Mugabe.

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

Guess its because of the VPs Mnangagwa sacking and replacing with Grace. The liberation and war vet wing didn't like that.. Though I'm sure Grace would be a mental power-mad dictator as well.. wasn't it the war vets that illegally occupied and ruined most farms in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe - Mugabe ousted ?

Looks like the Army took over from Mugabe.
Interestingly - it seems that again family matters played an important role: Mugabe (93) wanted his wife (53) to become vice president.

Let's hope this won't make a bad situation worse.

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

It was about the time to step up and free the nation from oppression. My only wish that the coup won’t perpetuate the wrong leadership. One dictator replaced by another dictator - my fingers crossed and hope not.

Such a nice country Zimbabwe it is ...

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

It appears that Army is negotiating with Mugabe. The Army was involved with North Korean "advisors" suppressing opposition. Doesn't look good.
Things will probably get worse before they get better.

Good article here

Quote:
How Robert Mugabe killed one of Africa's richest economies
Zimbabwe was once the bread basket of Africa. But it's been slammed by industrial mismanagement, food shortages, a collapsed currency and rampant corruption.

Edit - Whether things will be better after the coup or worse is yet unknown.

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

A coup is a sudden thing, unexpected by the target (and the population usually).

This thread sounds like the subject is being discussed. Will that still a coup?!

The supposed coup has alraedy occured.

But it takes some time to work out whether it was an actual coup or just the army being heavy handed in a situation that is otherwise legit.

Communication seems to be poor.

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

My wife from Zim and I, from RSA, are watching the news with tension. We would wanna return to our postures someday when the economy takes a positive turn. Let’s restore bread-basket to fruitful end first and set an example for a change to other African countries

You make it sound as if that was his choice. The news say he was degraded?

Which ever it is - great news
Next step will be to get the money back from him?

Re: Zimbabwe, Military Coup rumours?

Mugabe sacked as leader, sacked VP reinstated.

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63353

If everyone's so joyful about him leaving, why the hell did they wait 37 years before sacking him? He's run the country into the ground while squirreling away a fortune as most dictators do. Owns several homes in other countries so you have to ask where the money came from since Zimbabwe's inflation got so bad they had to abandon their own currency.

Whether he stays or goes, the main question is will anything change? Somehow I doubt it.
