There's non-native and there's a claim of fluency...
You can't pretend you're better than the native speakers (generic you, not you RufusB) and play the victim card when called out on a grammar mistake or whatever language subtlety - all at the same time.
IMO. Of course.

But hey ho, it is amusing. I don't complain. I want more of it. MC, you rock. I'm a fan, honestly.

That's the life she understood and chose when marrying the Royal Family. It's the price for the extreme privilege that comes along with it!

That's as maybe but is total submission/loss of self really what you should have pay?
When performing public duties on the Queen's behalf, surely curbing one's ego and toning one's opinions down isn't too much to ask. It's what many ordinary people are expected to do when working for an employer. But if there's a ban on royals expressing opinions freely in private that would indeed seem rather a high price to pay.

I don't agree that Meghan was a victim; so let's agree to disagree if that is possible
A victim of her own naievety maybe?

It is a bit kitch.
Most everything about the royals is, as is a big part of any celebrity figure. Of course some stuff must be reflecting the real person, but outsiders will never really know for sure which is and which isn't.

This is a good part of Trump's allure. Troubled as he probably is, he doesn't appear to be acting.
(keeping in mind that he too may be acting all the time)

I disagree. If they wanted privacy, they wouldn't have done the interview. If they wanted privacy, they wouldn't leak family affairs to the press via Gayle King. I don't think they want privacy in as much as they want to control the media and the way they're presented.
Yup, this. Greenmount seems to have a very naive and unrealistic interpretation of this specific topic, because even when you strip away all of the tabloid sensationalism away and look at the situation of the Sussexes and their future plans, it is patently obvious that privacy and living a quiet life is not Ms Markle's goal. She has big ambitions related to altruism and becoming a public figure of significance, she is building a brand, and that of course involves generating a lot of publicity and media attention. She is now trying to shape that media attention into something positive for them and a large part of that is getting the American media on side and sympathetic to her cause as a "royal refugee" escaping persecution from a cruel family.

First of all olygirl commented on a post of mine in which I talked about the other couple whose privacy was invaded countless times. Not Meghan and Harry. I don't know what their plans are, obviously not to live their life privately from now on.
I commented on their reasons for splitting up with the royal family, not their intentions to live their life privately. Royals don't live their life privately, private and royals - if it ever was an oxymoron.... And no, I'm not naive, thanks a lot. Anything else in regards with what everyone else should have the same opinion on the latest royal saga?

That is a good joke. I think it is kind, naieve and a bit patronizing to expect naievety from somebody who fished out such a big royal fish.

It was patently obvious based on the post you quoted and the topic being discussed at that time that you were referring to William and Kate in your post and not Harry and Meghan.

I’m not really sure how anybody could have misunderstood that.

Ah, no problems. Internet does that.

I was thinking of Meghan and Harry's famous interview as something they can't come back out of it. This is not like one of us here would have an argument with our in-laws, say semi-hurtful things to each other and then not visit for a while till we forget or our egos have been "healed".
I'm not surprised about Meghan, after all it's not her family. I mean by birth, and generally people don't have the same feelings for the in-laws. But Harry must have been through some tough time. I guess he knew why he/they did it. He doesn't seem as communicative as her. Anyways, interesting family dynamics.. The royals are humans too..

Great stuff! Any more on this from Private Eye? Was wondering how they'd cover the Piers Morgan walk-out, for example.

Re: [Prince] Harry and Meghan

Michelle Obama could teach Meghan/Harry a thing or two about diplomacy. When asked about the Oprah interview, she seemed to choose her words carefully. Some news outlets seem to have interpreted them to mean that she wasn't surprised to hear about racism in the royal family, but I'm not sure she necessarily meant that when she said "race isn't a new construct in this world for people of colour, and so it wasn't a complete surprise to hear her feelings and to have them articulated". That could just have meant she wasn't surprised to hear how Meghan felt.

The other part of what she said sounded to me like a gentle rebuke: "Public service is a bright, sharp, hot spotlight, and most people don't understand it, and nor should they. The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us in public service, it's about the people we serve."

Michelle Obama voices sympathy for Meghan on race

She won’t be entitled to a title until the Queen dies due to some law that came in over a hundred years ago. Most of the Queen’s great grandchildren won’t get a title until Charles becomes king.

My point was they hate the Royal family - but still want to link their daughters name to it. It's like me saying I hate cheese but I'm going to call my daughter Brie (kind of ).
