| | Meghan Markle
I was just thinking about all the discussions on here to do with relinquishing US citizenship and FACTA etc....
The British press is going crazy about a likely engagement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. They are discussing everything they can think of, but I've not seen any mention of her citizenship.
Prince Phillip had to take British citizenship and relinquish his Greek citizenship before marrying the Queen. Will Markle have to do the same I wonder? If not, will the USA be taking their cut of taxes from the British Royal Family .... could you imagine | The following 2 users would like to thank Island Monkey for this useful post: | |

I'm sure Meghan is one of our silent members, so I've taken the time to drag a small list together from the www to help her acclimatise to her new home
1. The word is "maths" not "math."
2. You need to write the date day first... because the day comes first.
3. Never ask the butler for biscuits and gravy, because this is what you'll get
4. Uh, marmite. Look, you might not like this one, but Harry might do. Just, if you don't like it, maybe keep quiet about it?
5. In Britain, the washing machines are in the kitchen. It's not clear why, it's just the way things are.
6. We don't have sales tax introduced at the counter. What you see is what you pay. Your welcome
7. Universal healthcare. Believe me, it is great to be able to walk into a hospital and say "I'm sorry, it's all broken, I don't know what I did, fix me." And they do. Few questions asked. For free.

"20 mins" probably didn't wait for confirmation from Clarence House. |

Yes, this is going to prove interesting as their engagement has been announced today. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-42137179
Do the Royal Family know what Harry is letting himself in for regarding possible US tax obligations?
Evidently her father can claim Irish and Dutch descent so maybe she can get one of those nationalities and ditch the US one.
Frankly I can't see this marriage lasting. They've known each other only for about a year - Harry was with Chelsea for many years and never popped the question.

Look at their president. I doubt if he pays nearly enough as he should | | | | | You may be in for a surprise if you take merely taxable income and are Ok with relying on one year only. In 2005 he paid $38mln on $150mln taxable income. Whether you'd think those $150mln income tax base are arrived at in a fair way may be a different question, but 20% income tax rate isn't that little considering it's the USA.
However, without Alternative Minimum Tax he'd have paid way lesse. And you may ask yourself why was only one year leaked, could it have been intentional because that's when he looks unusually good? I'd be quite surprised if we get to know during his presidency.

How come the couple can only afford life in a cottage? Aren't the royals rich?

I was with my long term ex for 16 years. I loved him, but didn't want to marry him.
Fast forward a few years, when I met a new chap, and after 6 months, was fully convinced he was "the one" and we married against all advice of it being "too soon", and many happy years later.....Granted we're not having the pressures of being under public scrutiny as these 2 are.
Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark and her fella also knew each other for a very short time also before marriage, and they seem to be a very happy couple & family.
Maybe Meghan & Harry have window shopped enough and are now ready to purchase?

I hadn't known my husband for that long before he proposed and still together 26+ years on. It does happen. I just would have thought more time to get used to the whole royal thing might have been better for her. They only made their first public appearance 6 months ago.
