Lets be realistic, British expats in Switzerland are not going to be affected anywhere near as much as British residents. It doesn't even make any logical sense to think so.

Brexit will impact wages, cost of goods, jobs, living conditions etc etc and that is what British residents will experience. Us expats are living within a different economy and political system and are extremely cushioned from the impacts of Brexit by that.
If you are here on UK pensions losing 50, 60% of value ?

Bear in mind current negotiation is with the EU - I guess Switzerland will come afterwards once they work out what needs to be untangled.
Which is why I suspect they've left us til last. These roadshows have been trawling around Spain for ages now, and one couple I know over there have had access to 4 of them.

There have been some cancellations, so places are still available for the Geneva meeting on Friday, 23rd.
I unfortunately won't be able to make it tomorrow, but if you are able to update this thread afterwards with a summary of what is discussed I (and I'm sure many others) would be very grateful!

Yes please do, I think it will be useful for all us Brits if we can get feedback from all the shows. I'm sure different things will come up in all of them.

I thought it would be nice to have a purely informative thread with no childish squabbles......
As if that was ever going to happen on EF.

If costs of goods rise, then salaries are not going to magically go up to compensate. Companies moving outside of London will potentially affect a lot of jobs.
This will have a severely impact London house prices helping the next generation to afford London Property. very cloud has a silver lining.

Thats due to poor investment decisions made by the pension fund industry, of course had you followed my advise & invested in www.fundsmith.co.uk your pension fund would have risen considerably. Terry Smith of course stood for the Referendum party 20 years ago so was ahead of the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo5e2TlGuoQ

Just making the point that the UK is happy to throw itself on the mercy of the rest of the world and whatever trade deals it can scrape together with whatever conditions they have to dance to, yet the EU is all bad.

That's the astounding bit.

There's something about "nose" "face" and "spite" in that lot.

I would be tempted to go if I knew I would not turn up and rant at the civil servant.

I think she will need all her very best diplomatic skills.

Re: Brexit (and other UK stuff) information roadshow in Swizterland

A bit of a sweeping statement that. Standard depends very much on the school managment and the teachers.

The Netherlands-trained teachers at the Dutch school my son attends each week regard the Swiss system (at least the Zurich one) to be based on outdated teaching methods. My son’s regular Swiss school is actually considering updating their methods.

I assume you were in a UK school in the last 3-5 years and in a Swiss school to be able to make your scientific comparison.

The standard of the average Swiss state school is very high. Can you same the same for Britain?

Re: Brexit (and other UK stuff) information roadshow in Swizterland

My husband went to the Bern one last Thursday. He said it was very interesting but there was not much concrete information.
Basically at the moment they don't know much but they said UK nationals living in Switzerland 'shouldn't' be affected by Brexit.
He said there were lots of people asking questions but not many useful answers.

I'll try to get him to write a summary of it all when he gets home.

Re: Brexit (and other UK stuff) information roadshow in Swizterland

I'm tempted to try and get to one; I'll be interested to know what's what, and the extent to which my Swiss passport and the bilaterals will step in. If the EU draft published this week ends up as a final form (obviously early days yet), then it's conceivable I won't be able to operate my boat in Greece commercially after 2020, which could be the teensiest spanner in the works for my business
I'm still cross (to put it mildly) that I wasn't even allowed to vote on something that could affect me greatly

If you have a Swiss passport, your Swiss so can set up a business in Greece, assuming your qualifications are of a "Swiss' standard, can't see any issue at all.

Do you have a link? In order to operate legally I have to (and do) have a min. sole tradership which, according to the Greeks (not that they always have correct information), is only possible with an EU passport. As far as I have found to date, the Swiss bilaterals don't cover services, only employment and goods? Under article 32 of the draft EU thing this week, UK citizens will be prohibited from providing services on EU member state territories or to persons established in EU member states. But of course, the place of supply rules also apply...
