Parnell please stop trying to stir up hate towards people who are trying to find a better life. | | | | | They escape "war and persecution" so much they come all the way through several completely safe countries including African ones to tiny little Switzerland ??
You can knock off that hypocritical nonsense and go back to your "hate-filled" jibes about Irish people and potatoes...

Is being pro working class left? In that case the traditional socialist parties have stopped being left a long time ago. | | | | | That used to be the foundation. But unfortunately you're right, in many respects the left (of the German speaking countries) has abandoned that position. | Quote: | | | | | Or is being left about embracing a certain type of thinking and policy, broadly inspired by socialism or some modern watered down version thereof. In that case both the left and the populist right are left. | | | | | The populist right is left? How?
I'm speaking of the German speaking countries.

I'm speaking of the German speaking countries. | | | | | The restriction to German speaking countries is your criterion, not mine.
But let's take the Austrian FPÖ as an example, recalling their 2017 campaign promises.
- raise minimum income to 1500 EUR
- more money for social housing
- cap price increases for utilities such as water, gas etc
- stop plans to shut down village post offices, doctor's clinics etc
- stop privatisation of public services
- more subsidies for pre-school daycare
If you didn't know who said that, you could have guessed they were left wing, no?

The FPÖ has been in power for half a year now. How many of their promises have they realised?

I don't claim to follow every European country's politics. | | | | | But that didn't prevent you from posting on a thread about Italian politics and demanding other forum members in that discussion restrict their examples to German speaking countries.
So really that means you should be discussing only the Alto Adige? | Quote: | | | | | The FPÖ has been in power for half a year now. How many of their promises have they realised? | | | | | We're still talking about the far right and far left being similar, aren't we?
How many far left governments kept all their promises? Especially in a coalition with a centre right party?
So in other words, your point reinforces the similarity rather than the difference.

| | Re: Election Results: Italians Say FU to the EU, Globalists | Quote: | | | | | We have a situation with a weakened core EU and an increasing number of enemies or at best very difficult and critical friends. We have a Brexit, that hapapned because the EU didn't want to listen to or understand Britain. We have the problems with Eastern Europe, essentially a stalemate caused because the EU doesn't want to listen to them or to understand their perspective. .... | | | | | Regarding Brexit you are probably over-simplifying things.
Regarding Eastern European countries, instead, you are probably talking about the exact same countries who have been granted large amounts of money from the EU in the last several years, aren't you?
Having lived and worked there in the past I can tell you that their living standards have increased a lot recently, so in my humble opinion they should not complain too loudly

With less people arriving, the Germans, Swedes etc will have less of a reason to vote for their own populist parties.

With less people arriving, the Germans, Swedes etc will have less of a reason to vote for their own populist parties. | | | | | No, even if the migrant flow stops to zero right now (which it won't) many migrant-heavy countries like Germany, Sweden, Italy, etc. will still be dealing with the problems for a long time to come. Like the rape and murder of a 14-year old girl in Germany by a drug-dealing migrant. | Quote: | | | | The AfD has called for demonstrations in various parts of Germany, including Susanna's hometown of Mainz, on Saturday. Before Ali B.'s capture, the party's parliamentary leader, Alice Weidel, published a video on YouTube in which she called Susanna "a further victim of Angela Merkel's hypocritical and egotistical open-door policies to refugees."
Statistics compiled by Germany's Federal Criminal Police Agency suggest that refugees are disproportionately prone to commit crimes like murder and rape. But experts say that other circumstances, including the fact that so many of the refugees are young men as well as their precarious social status, need to be considered to understand the data properly. http://www.dw.com/en/suspect-in-deat...rts/a-44125497 | | | | | ...but the liberal German media still tries to "protect" the refugees?? | This user would like to thank esto for this useful post: | |

Jokes aside, yesterday local elections have been held in many Italian cities.
The 5 star movement appears to have lost some supporters, and the same applies to Berlusconi's party and PD. The League is gaining momentum, so it appears that Italian voters agree with Salvini.
