Irish abortion ban

Preliminary vote count results showing 67% against the abortion ban.
New laws likely to be unnecessarily strict but bringing Ireland more in line with other Western countries.

Women should be allowed to choose what they do with their own bodies!

A whole group of US evangelists were in Ireland a month before the vote campaigning to keep the abortion ban!

Countries should keep out of other countries voting; you only have to look at the current US President to see how badly (like bigly) such interference can have poor results

Meanwhile, Donald Trump reduces funds for Planned Parenthood due to their abortion services. Some countries are moving forward while others are going backwards.

Totally agree... Women should be allowed to do what they want with their own bodies... Only that is not their own body, it belongs to somebody else, and unless this is cleared we as a society should err on the side of the embyro.

You could use the same argument to say infections and cancer should not be treated; they are alive and reproduce

Just for the record: I'm an atheist.

Abortion is murder. Whoever says the contrary have no clue what he/she is talking about from a biological point of view.

And please, stop saying "Women should be allowed to do what they want with their own bodies..." you are making yourself look dumber.

Whoever says it either agrees with the murder of unborn children or is an uneducated person (as is most people in this subject).

Round about the 20th week according to the scientific American, that is when the wiring that is required for consciousness is finished, around two months later you can detect EEC rhythem across both hemispheres. So about a bit after 3 months if you want to take it carefully.

Kudos to Slammer for providing evidence and avoiding needless name calling.

Abortion is an emotional topic but I'm grateful to be living in a country where it's legal and treated with discretion. Switzerland also has one of the lowest abortion rates in the world, mainly due to its attitude towards responsible contraception and fertility control.

Then ban abortions after the 20th week, unless there are significant medical reasons to do it (ie life of mother is threatened).
Unless they come up with embryos can survive without using a women’s uterus, I’d say it’s absolutely women deciding what they want to do with their own bodies.

Am I jumping to a false conclusion when I write you are obviously not a woman?

Talking about "uneducated person (as is most people in this subject" should be "as are most people on this subject"

Shame that the same logic not applied to young males - as per circumcision. On this same forum it was interesting that the biggest proponents for male circumcision were female.

I remember when I was in college a friend of mine had an abortion but told me she thought it was ethically wrong.

It's very curious that some folks on this forum defend Marx , China & the one child policy - which all impose tremendous restriction from government to the individual and yet champion the rights of the individual woman (not child/embryo) in this case.
