but nothing happened so why take such drastic actions? they need to learn from the swiss and take it easy.
When did the Swiss deal with such a drone nuisance on such a scale and how did they "take it easy"?

Some knob-stick has scuppered the flights of around 110,000 people in three days. The current solution is to simply knock it out of the sky and arrest said knob-stick. It's more "practical" than "drastic"

They didn’t erect huge concrete blocks around all the airports in order to prevent such nonsense therefore they are ‘taking it easy’ and not taking such potential threats seriously.

It is tricky, they do not want to shoot since they cannot guarantee where the bullet ends. Disturbing signals might be a bad idea on an airport.

And this is one of the reasons why police forces have tested and are still testing with hunting birds.
simple answer, shot guns

Latest news : UFO landed/crashed beside the airport. A cover story was required to be able to bring in the military for recovery.

Wouldn't be the Daily Fail comments if you didn't have this kind of hysteria bashed out sweaty-fist-to-keyboard:

I'm amazed that you react so strongly to imagined threats, yet don't believe in taking effective action in the face of a real hazard. A couple of kilos of metal and a lithium battery getting drawn into an engine during take off or landing, or hitting the cockpit screen... Nothing of concern there

Effective range 30/40 metres?
Unless you load the with solid bullets when you have the stray bullet scenario again.

Re: Gatwick airport closed due to drones

There are anti-drone devices. The Swiss have one that fires a weighted net and others are experimenting with birds.

Now why did the UK police forces not have these? A known threat and they are hovering in helicopters.

Re: Gatwick airport closed due to drones

How about a anti drone drone? Drone wars, armed with a lance and given names like: "Sir Batteries not included" or " Sir Klankalot?" I would buy a subscription to watch that.

So the USA and Isreal can stop incoming nukes with Iron Dome - and Gatwick is paralysed for days due to a sophisticated toy??

A matter of scale of economics. The tax payer would go medieval if Gatwick used military grade anti aircraft surface to air missiles to light up a toy.

Considering they can satellite picture someone picking their nose on the street, how they fail to track a drone makes one ponder. I was starting to feel sorry for not going anywhere, yet again, for Xmas, but I am actually enjoying it now.

Not if one knows the difference between a highly detailed but static image made every few hours and a live tracking system of very small objects...

Story about an airport under siege and they can't break out the T word. The news-desk must have been twitching and sweating.
