UK Pension - Winter fuel payment

Did anyone else fail to get their 2018 payment?
In previous years it always arrived OK.

I know it is a small amount but I do not remember the UK Govt. ever allowing me not to pay stuff because the amount was small!

I checked their website and pensioners living in Switzerland are still entitled.

I sent them an email but they replied they only deal with Winter fuel payments on the phone. I tried phoning but after 5 minutes of listening to lift music at international call rates I gave up.

Wow you have to pay international rates to call the UK, CH must be really backwards, I can call over 100 countries for standard rates from France, did you try Skype?

Looks like you will have to log in once again! Calling the UK can't actually be expensive in 2018 even with Swisscom?

I have worked for almost 8 years in the UK. Will I receive the national pension plus any other benefits? EU citizen.

I think you need 10 years of contributions, so it would be worth making 2 years of voluntary payments. You can log into the Gov website & check your pension record.

I think if you retire in the EU the 10 year rule doesn't apply...
In my case I may retire as a Canadian tax resident though so I may need to work for 2 more years in the UK...

Plus depending when you retire, this EU thing may no longer apply.

The 10 years of contributions is not the full pension, but I believe is the current rule for part of the pension.

10 years is the min period for ANY pension AFAIK, you will get 10/35 of the full pension with 10 years contributions if the rules don't change. (40 years became 30 years became 35 years)

I'm just researching this whole issue now. This document may be relevant for some people living here and approaching UK retirement age: https://www.gov.uk/new-state-pension...rking-overseas. There is even an example of eligibility with only 7 "qualifying years".

Anyway, I'd be interested to know if anyone here has seen their National Insurance contribution history and found big gaps in it due to clerical errors or missing data etc. (i.e. not voluntary opting out) which, if not corrected, could have impacted their future UK state pension. I should have 16 years of contributions and assuming the rules don't change and there has been no big record keeping errors, I will be entitled to such a pension - when the time comes.
