Brexit raising its urine ugly head

...diiiid not see that one coming.
I just got an Einschreiben from the German Einwohnermeldeamt more or less giving me three options.
One, in case of a free for all brexit I need a residence permit immediately, the forms are included in the letter.
Two, In case of a nice brexit I have a three month grace period to get a residence permit, these forms are also included in the letter.
Three, get the hell out of dodge, OR ELSE...!

What´s it like for you pre-brexit Swissy-Brits?

Ah, but not my democracy. I never had the chance to vote, never got my say in the matter and my voice was not heard. It is not democratic when a matter of potentially life-changing consequences like brexit gets forced on me against my will.

Sorry to hear that. There are certainly some on the forum that will believe that this is the price British citizens should accept in order to be free of clutches of Brussels! I don’t accept it, I think the people who voted to leave were shortsighted, selfish isolationists, bent on reliving Britain’s glory days as a colonial powerhouse because they are fearful of a unified and multicultural world.

You have no idea how much that would make me happy, but I am sure Jerry won´t see it that way.

Switzerland and Britain have already agreed what's important to us.
  • If you're already in, all good
  • If you want to come in, there will be quotas

As I predicted already https://www.englishforum.ch/2964849-post3.html

The Swiss are usually quite practical: it made sense to keep things as they were. The biggest risk to that strategy was UK politicians being arseholes.
British expats are way down the shit list of "immigrants we don't like" for the Swiss anyway.

Also in numbers, only 40k or so of us.
If every Brit was expelled tomorrow it wouldn't make a dent in the tight housing market in big cities.

Quote:
Lastly, on 25 February, Switzerland signed an agreement with the UK on migration-related matters. If the
free movement of persons ceases to apply to the UK,
this new agreement will protect the rights of Swiss
nationals in the UK
– which they acquired under the
Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons (AFMP)
– such as residency and social security rights and the
recognition of professional qualifications. Reciprocal
conditions will apply to UK nationals in Switzerland
. This
new agreement will not apply to people who immigrate
after the AFMP ceases to apply

Couldn't have put that better myself, permission to use it was widely as possible amongst my bigoted UK 'friends'?

Am awaiting something similar from the frogs; they stopped issuing resident permits to EU nationals years ago but I can see them making an exception for the Brits.
