Sad for MAD? [Magazin might cease direct publication after 67 years]

According the Hollywood Reporter the satire publication will no longer be sold on newsstands after the August issue, and future editions will shift to previously published material with new covers.

The world has just gotten a little poorer.

I can remember when they cost $0.25.

I owe much of my English to Mad magazine.

Well, all print is going down, so I cannot say I am surprised. The German equivalent of MAD started an official political party some years ago. Since they have two seats in the EU parliament do they now have any financial issues anymore.

"We will squeeze money out of the EU like a small Southern European country" was their official plan.

Titanic the same as MAD
That's like comparing the New York Post with the FAZ

Ah, Mad magazine: planted the first seeds of questioning authority in my childish mind.

Forbidden fruit in our strait-laced household, of course. So I made sure I arrived for my piano lessons and orthodontist appointments early so I could read the copies in the waiting room, cleverly hidden in a Highlights issue.

Spy vs Spy.

That's not a good moment for a satire magazine to disappear. (Is it...ever?) We need to laugh otherwise we'd go crazy with all the absurdities happening around us or elsewhere.

I haven't read Mad but I would have probably enjoyed it. I'm amusing myself reading articles in The Onion sometimes, and a couple of satire magazines from my home country. I started reading them in high school and I became a loyal reader in time, so I understand this sadness, it's like losing an old and dear friend..I know there are more and more stand-up comedians who dive into political and social satire but it's not the same. For me personally it's a sad moment when a good magazine ceases its activity.

I honestly dont know how to write satire about Trump. The whole point of satire is to show real life issues by exaggeration. How do you do this with Trump? SNL is doing fun comedy, but its really hard to be more absurd than the actual US leadership… even George W. Bush at least understood satire. With Trump you got the feeling that he genuinely has not sense of humour at all. The only thing he seems to find funny is actually bullying others.
