Re: A stabbing just happened (*fill in the blank*)

I wonder how Daily Mail readers will deal with these two facts:
Released terrorists commits terror act after being released from prison.
Convicted murderer helps protect the public while on day release from prison.

Quote:
IStandard police tactics in the UK do not extend to neutralizing a threat by deadly force.
I'm pretty sure you're wrong on this.

It is standard practice to deploy armed police during a suspected terrorist attack.

If armed police are deployed, there job is to neutralise the threat - preferably by the suspect complying with their instructions. If you fail to comply with the instructions that armed police give you, then you are likely to die. If they suspect you're imminently about to e.g. blow yourself up, then they are supposed to act to protect the public, and you are likely to die.

The UK police officer's job is to keep the peace. This does extend to neutralising a threat by deadly force.

Released terrorist taken down by convicted murderer who had a day out during a 15 year prison term.

The Brits love their jokes.

There are now calls to look into the robustness of the sentencing and releases systems/formats/ regulations. Fancy that.

It is sad that police are criticised for using lethal force in such a situation. If this situation did not justify using their guns, then there is no point in having armed police at all.

Firearms in Switzerland are freely available to Swiss citizens and C permit holders, expect those from a number of specified countries. It certainly does not make Switzerland a less safe country.

To be honest I’m surprised they didn’t taser the guy rather than put a couple of bullets in him.
When you consider that the detonation of a bomb vest is usually via an electrical rather than a manual device, I wonder if using a taser would be the right course of action. i've no idea if it would or wouldn't.

As for the flaws in the judicial system, the state of the courts, which anyone who follows The Secret Barrister will be well aware of, and the state of the prison system, are key factors.

And the man that took on the terrorist with a 5 foot Whale tusk (you couldn’t make it up) was a Polish immigrant. So that has at least shut up the Brexiteers for a while!!

First time they'll have applauded "Polish" and "Tusk" in the same sentence anyway.

Not only that, you tazer the guy and he is on the ground with his finger on the trigger spasming like the Duracell bunny.

I guess it’s a moot point now because there was a spent taser on the ground at the scene. So it answers my question. They must have tried to subdue him first.

If you're going to ascribe labels then you could at least be consistent. "the Polish immigrant that took on the *British born Muslim*" would be a fairer reflection of what happened. Of course this wouldn't fit with your lazy narrative.

Is it possible to celebrate the heroics of a few brave men without labeling 17.4 million people xenophobes?

I don't know TC, all of sudden you made the Polish guy sound like a murderous xenophobe.

How did you even succeed such a thing? I think it's an acquired and perfected skill.

Chapeau!

Re: A stabbing just happened (*fill in the blank*)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but British policemen don't typically carry firearms, and even if they do, they don't typically happen to loiter around with them. So either they were there by a pure stroke of luck, or the situation must have been escalating for long enough for them to be called and have time to arrive on the scene.

They do around the Westminster area or are at least armed officers are very close by. They were on the scene within a few minutes.

But you are right the typical British bobby isn’t armed.

If you start getting stabby or wearing a lumpy vest or drive a van erratically in that area, you have to expect it’s going to end badly.
