And again this has no bearing on those kids who are too young to have any control over what isn't in the cupboards.

It is naive and simplistic at best, deliberatelt obtuse and provocative at worst. Which is it? Do you have any real understanding of the way millions of children have to live through no fault of their own?

But do you consider one of them to be anywhere to closely capable? 3 guys that are so power hungry that they run for one of the most demanding jobs in their seventies.
Why is the age so important? You can be 40 and think like someone who is 77 y.o. Oh, and vice versa.

Nobody knows where any country is headed, tbh. One thing I like about the US politics is that it is so intense, one feels things are moving forward, even with older candidates than people would like to see. Better than insane corruption elsewhere, or sleepwalking intelos.
Well yeah, except the US has super insane corruption, and massive stagnation...all you have to do is consider the senate. So no, I fail to see moving ahead.

..and white poor people* and white poor kids too. Wasn't a heated discussion about the low upward social mobility in the USA a while ago? Most people seemed to agree on this thing.

Happening in the UK too.

They got rid of all the sure start programmes for little kids, which was quite an inexpensive support for parents to access once a week with their babies, children to receive advice/info about all sorts from early education to children's health.

All gone now, and that was just one of many small, valuable, empowering community support networks to help kids have a positive start in life.

F**k austerity and the tory horse it rode in on.

The usage of White trash/trailer trash is very commonly used throughout the US. But pretty much within the US....It‘s not a term used in Europe, for example.

A whole 21? Well that's that then. Discussion over.

How many started out wealthy?

And still no relevance to this discussion.

As MC hasn't engaged other than to thank a post I assume is supposed to provide a counter argument I guess that's the answer: contempt for any view that can't be wrapped up in double speak. No issue with a Devil's Advocate but there's not even that. Just post and run.

Great example.

If (someday) they think it will bring them more votes they will promise to restore those programmes and add some more... Politicians are chameleons. Left, right, doesn't mean much today.
The main problem is if they will feel that pressure coming from the public.

Billionaires are more than wealthy.... none of them started out wealthy, did you not read the link? I could have posted a higher no of billionaires (3rd google link), but chose to tone it down for all the leftie loosers here

Good for them. Unfortunately these types of stories can be misleading. As RufusB said, a whole 21? Out of a country of 300+ million? That's not exactly rags to riches glory being possible for all. It's a select few who worked hard and also had a little luck. The average very poor person in the USA is never going to wind up a millionaire, much less a billionaire.

I think that's mindset, people make their own luck.
The average poor person has to do something not average to become a millionaire, thats all. Oakley was set up out of a car boot with $300, Jim Jannard made more than a billion out of that.
Invest $100 a month for 40 years in equities & you have a reasonable chance of becoming a millionaire S&P 500 tracker would be a good starting point.

Even if you earn $100 a week, it’s going to be hard.

And no, people don’t always make their own luck. Sometimes shit happens and you’re stuck. And no, that’s not an excuse, either.

The number of bankruptcies because of health emergencies should give you a clue.

For sure, there are creative and driven problem solvers out there, but it’s really the height of clueless privilege to imagine everyone can just do it.
