The network might present a lot of non-US news in a semi-balanced manner, but when it comes to covering Trump the anchors tend to totally lose their minds. It might be where the term Trump Derangement Syndrome originated, because they are so animated about everything Trump does. | | | | | One could call it more lively discussion

| | Re: Where do you get your news? | Quote: | | | | | Stevens Point is a cute little place. I've never met anyone in CH who has heard of it, much less knows where it is! | | | | | Picked up a chick from Stevens point in a hotel bar in Chicago. A few weeks later back in Denmark she had somehow managed to get my number and called me in the middle of the night. We arranged to meet on my next vacation so I flew back to Chicago and spent my jollies in Stevens Point, did that a few times actually, even at one time flying from my base in Mexico City to Wausau for a week. Sadly the distance was in the end too much and we parted ways. That is why I was thinking of a future that never was. But from time to time I do like to read the Stevens Point journal.

EF is also a good source. But one has to be careful to do a "fact check" for obvious reasons |

I have a subscription to the Daily Telegraph. I get other news from the BBC world service or BBC radio 4.
Swiss news from Tages Anzieger and 20 minutes and this forum.

BBC for getting the headlines quickly.
NZZ for in depth analysis, both for Swiss and international news. Good commentary / editorials too.
Tages Anzeiger is good for local Zürich coverage and to some extent for Swiss news (depending on the situation), but the international bits are worthless.
Telegraph, Guardian for alternative points of view on the same story. Especially for UK news.
ZDF for the entertainment value and to see just to what lengths they will go to distort a story that they wish wasn't true. Spiegel is even worse in that respect.
20 Minuten for the Sudoku.
Depending on the nature of the story I'm interested in, I look up specialist news sources. For example if there has been an incident, the local news for that town may have more in depth coverage and have it first. Sometimes also forums and things are way ahead of the official new channels. For example in aviation, if there has been a crash or major disruption, the official news sources may be breaking the fact in an arm waving manner that there has been an incident in this or that location but they don't have the details yet, the airline itself will be pretending to be clueless, while some aviation forums will already have all the details and be telling you exactly which flights are being cancelled or delayed as a result. Typically with surprising accuracy.

Now owned by Jack Ma, take what you will from that . It used to be very informative (pre-97) but no one really believes it isn't pro-china biased. Nowadays the best HK news is through twitter https://twitter.com/HongKongFP
But even worse is Straits times we have in SG. It is only a mouthpiece for the PAP (ruling party) and it doesn't even hide it.
Honestly I'd take 20 minuten anyday (sp/grammar mistakes and all)...

| | Re: Where do you get your news? | Quote: | | | | I normally read the same story via a number of different sources and try to sift out the stuff that doesn't stack up / sounds a bit made-up. | | | | | Same here. I'm a bit of a news hound so... I like reading how various stories are genuinely reported Worldwide by searching a subject via www.newsnow.co.uk
Online: Sky news.co.uk, Reuters, Magnum for the photos, Independent for the photos. Sky and Reuters particularly for travel alerts. Ekathimerini for Greek news. NZZ for Swiss, and my OH still reads IOL daily for South African news.
TV: News at 10 if it's Tom Bradby. Channel 4 news, Andrew Marr and Sky's 'Press Preview' particularly if the guests are Ian Dunt of politics.co.uk & Melanie Phillips of The Times. They're very different fish but they allow each other space to get their point across. When they're vehemently in agreement, it really makes me sit up and take notice. Also like Stig Abell, editor of The Times Literary Supplement. For the US on a single event day, Kate Bolduan's 'State of America' debates.
Twitter - even though I don't have an account: Ian Dunt - love it when he has to sit through a Commons debate or PMQs and starts getting bored with the waffle , Faisal Islam, Jon Snow and Larry the Cat of course for the catty commentary. The very existence of that account really upsets Julia Hartley-Brewer and Katie Hopkins.
