Either TXL or SXF because the new airport doesn't yet have a code ...
How do you explain the IATA registers stating BER as airport code for this airport?

Re: [Poll] BER or Brexit?

Could the airport code be BER, if the other two are closed as a consequence of the opening?

Re: [Poll] BER or Brexit?

Actually, I played with IATA website and BER is officially listed as both Metropolitan code and the new airport's code (see attachment).

If I remember correctly, at some point there were flights being scheduled at the new airport, so IATA must have assigned a code at that time. Then the opening was canceled but tickets were already sold with some code on them, so I guess it was BER...?

IATA hasn’t assigned a code, yet, for the new airport because it is not yet possible to book a flight there. Once you can IATA will assign a code, and it won’t be BER.
It could be as simple as going to the IATA website and look what is listed under BER

Why should IATA only assign a 3 letter code just slightly before the new planned opening in 2020? And yes, BER was once scheduled for opening on June 3rd 2012. The opening was cancelled just 4 weeks before on May 8th 2012 https://www.morgenpost.de/flughafen-...getan-hat.html

The one at the bottom of your list (TXL) will close.

Schönefeld / SXF and Tempelhof / THF will remain open.

You cannot book a flight to BER because, there is no flight to BER. But that does not mean that the not yet opened airport does not have the IATA 3 letter code BER. And as said BER is also the code for the corresponding metropolitan area which includes BER, TXL, and SXF. As there are only flights to TXL or SXF, only does are shown when you use BER (metropolitan area) to lookup flights but none to BER (airport) as there are currently no flights to the not yet opened airport.
Try Swiss and type in TXL. It will automatically change to BER. Even if you do fly to TXL in the end.

I know there is no BER and long may it take before that airport opens.....

You can experience the same with SXF on the Swiss website. So what?
Must be indeed a strange dimenson when Swiss the airline (PS: why no longer Swissair, what other strange things happened in this dimension) defines what the IATA codes shall be.

Re: [Poll] BER or Brexit?

Searching, is not the same as ticketing. And the results of an airline search will differ from a neutral agency search. The airline is going to bias the results in their favour.

Swiss (LX, not SR) serves both airports (either with their own metal, or through code-share agreements with partners). So when you select one they give you both.

But if you had used a neutral agency a search for BER it would have given you all airports, while a search for only an airport will give you results for that airport.

The original plan was that the new airport would have replaced both TXL and SXF so IATA assigned a single code BER. In the interim those plans have changed. If Berlin retains its multi-airport status each airport will need to have a code.

Re: [Poll] BER or Brexit?

Interesting news.

BER is, once again, scheduled for opening. October 31st 2020.

On the other hand the true and final Brexit is scheduled for December 31 2020

It is BER. Has always been BER and you still owe me a BEER at BER.

Btw. Schönefeld SXF is known since October 25th 2020 as BER Terminal 5. The IATA Code SXF is no longer in use. In this respect BER is actually already operational.

Hasn´t brexit been postponed to Jan31st 2021?

I don´t think anybody is holding their breath at opening an airport in a pandemic where hardly anybody flies anymore.

Well TXL closed some time ago and SXF has this week ceased to be an airport. It has become Terminal 5 of the new airport. As Berlin is no longer holds a multi-airport status the City code for Berlin (BER) can also be used by its only airport.

Well TXL closed some time ago.
This is such a strange thread. Once again I wake up in a alternate realty. I was super sure that TXL was in full operation just a minute ago. https://www.berlin-airport.de/en/tra...-txl/index.php

But waking up in alternate realty can have it's advantages. Maybe this terrible tribbles problem which is plaguing the world since last Christmas is gone. Have had enough of this fluffy balls every where. But as I know my luck we might have now Daleks or some other killer roaming the streets.
