The Thucydides Trap: inevitable war between China and the USA

24 centuries ago Thucydides wrote "It was the rise of Athens and the fear that this instilled in Sparta that made war inevitable."

Substitute China for Athens and the USA for Sparta.

It's a common historical pattern, a rising power threatens to displace an existing power. Obama and Xi actually discussed the Thucydides Trap in their 2015 summit and agreed that just like Sparta and Athens, such a conflict would be mutually ruinious.

Fast forward to 2019 and ask American farmers how it's working out so far under Trump.

The problem in the US isnít how bad Trump is, it is the inability of the other guys to come up with a credible alternative.
