Re: The two most criticised Women today Meghan Markle & Greta Thunberg

Donīt worry about extinction for the human race, we are way too bloody minded for that. But as soon as Oil nolonger becomes an economic energy source our civilization canīt survive, at least not on the level we have today. Iīm thinking that a much reduced serf population will get on by at a level of the 17 hundreds, they will be kept in place by strong religious forces wielded by a elite who controls the technology.

Not sure what you're arguing about here. My position is that anthropogenic climate change is real (in agreement with the vast majority of scientists) and that if we save the planet via a quick transition to alternative energy/other green measures we have simply saved the planet from our own mistakes (see my football analogy)
I see. But so what? Does it matter so long as the planet is saved? Or the goal isn't scored. We screw up, we fix it, we move on.

Moving economically backwards by restricting energy use and reverting to a low impact agrarian lifestyle will not work. There needs to be a viable alternative to burning hydrocarbons. And not just to reduce emissions of CO2, but also because we need hydrocarbons for plastics (a not inconsiderable component of wind turbines) and other products. The only technologically available solution is nuclear power - fission. Forget fusion, so far that's always 20 years away - though we may get lucky.

Unfortunately, the greens and other environmentalists (and certain governments obsession with nuclear weapons) have successfully trained the general populate to be terrified of nuclear energy and have resisted its development into ever cheaper safer mass-produceable forms.

Shamelessly stolen from Twitter:

Quote:
If Harry & Meghan never want to be mentioned in the right wing press again all they have to do is change their names to Prince Andrew

Quote:
Meghan Markle is to change her name to "Russian Interference Report" in order to avoid any future media scrutiny.
and

Quote:
Harry will henceforth be known as the Artist formally known as Prince.

I agree - I think Nuclear is a great option to tide us over until we've got critical mass (no pun intended) on renewables.

I don't think moving to an agrarian lifestyle is needed - as shown above, 75% of carbon emissions are to do with energy, slashing that would create a sustainable (climate change wise) lifestyle for the planet. Oil used in creating plastics for a wind turbine as in your example will generate loads of energy per litre of oil as opposed to burning it in a power plant / car engine once.

Trump provokes Greta's wrath

As Expats know Greta's environmentally friendly Grotto has moved to Davos this week, where the first
to incur Greta's wrath is none other than the President of the United States himself; Donald Trump
with his opening speech to the World Economic Forum where he says 'we must reject The Perennial
Prophets of Doom and their predictions of the apocalypse'.

BBC News - Trump decries prophets of Doom with Greta in the audience

"Bernhard Rieder, a spokesman for ÖBB, told Euronews the company decided to continue with its night trains at a time when services across western Europe were being shunted into sidings.

It is a risk that is paying off, Rieder claims. He said passenger numbers were up 10% last year and has put the increase down to climate-conscious travellers."

Could flightshame and/or flightstrike really work? All the rants about how Mrs. Thunberg is irrelevant could be interpreted as a reminder that the world (other people) changes even if we personally don't change. As we get older we stop getting into new trends and/or fads. Nothing bad or wrong about, it's life.

I think it already is. Having said that, we , as a family, started limiting our flights long before I had heard of Ms. Thunberg .

I think the possible night train renaissance is fantastic. Travelling by sleeper makes getting to places for a shorter time much more feasible.
