| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | Were you sending far, far away or still around EU? I can see problems with far away but EU seems odd they would refuse. | | | | | It is the other way, far far away are still not in the really bad situation or have planes delivering. EU got so affected that individual countries decide who accepts deliveries coming from abroad and who doesn't, trains and planes don't deliver. I will check again on Monday.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | They say 1 out of every 75 cases is confirmed in Stockholm county. That brings the total with 6681 confirmed cases and a population of 2.344.000 at: 21.37%

I wonder what joke they'll tell tomorrow. | | | | | Not a joke from Sweden but primarily results from a random sampling in Geneva. From 760 person tested, around 5.5% had antibodies. Upscaled to the whole population this is approx 3.3 to 7.7%. Children and adults have approximately the same rate. The study is still ongoing as they do know how long it takes from the infection to form for antibodies. https://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/diese-s...t-899172044982
(Sorry I cannot find the original source, otherwise I would have linked to it)
Canton Geneva COVID Situation Report. April 22: 4726 cases, 213 dead. Population is approx 500k. https://www.ge.ch/document/covid-19-...ve/telecharger
Now some lounge chair predictions: Given the current preliminary Geneva data it is 1 out 8 case which is detected. If we adjust for mortality we can increase this factor by 3 for Sweden, which means 1 out of 24 is detected. Let us assume Sweden is just in the onset and has only seen half of the death. That brings us up to 1 out 50.
I would not call those numbers good but rather worrisome as there can be potentially a huge number of active cases in the near future which will need hospital care.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | The problem comes when they were previously state-run enterprises and are in trouble now yet are required for a nation's infrastructure.
Rail operators and airlines serving isolated communities are two examples. | | | | | UK no longer has national airline, BA would have gone bankrupt as pension deficit exceeded its market value. Luckily some mugs bought it.
There is no reason why isolated communities should have subsidised rail or air travel, they knew it was isolated when they went there.

As for BA, it deserved to go bankrupt years ago. Now it's just an embarrassment.

I bet that here in Switzerland, there are quite a few bus services that don't actually make any money but provide a transport link for some communities and maintain the totally integrated transport solution.

First paragraph
A Chicago hospital treating severe Covid-19 patients with Gilead Sciences’ antiviral medicine remdesivir in a closely watched clinical trial is seeing rapid recoveries in fever and respiratory symptoms, with nearly all patients discharged in less than a week, STAT has learned.
