Storm Ciara

Storm Ciara: Floods and travel disruption as UK hit by severe gales https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51425482

It is also heading towards the Central Europe and Switzerland as well. There have been warnings issued already.

https://www.srf.ch/news/panorama/win...m-wird-gewarnt

It’s also known under the name Sabine.

https://www.en24.news/A/2020/02/like...-dimanche.html

Stay alert.

Re: Storm Ciara

We battened down the hatches, here in the Bernese Midlands, everything that had to be, is secured in the garden/veggie allotment.

On walkies with the dog along the river Aare and the nature reservation close by, last weekI saw the devastation left from "Sabine" about a fortnight ago.... I wonder if we'll have any trees left after that new storm, because unfortunately the Canton is doing some work on the riverboard too and has cut down many trees

Ciara, Sabine, typical woman, always the same, come at you with the promise of wet and wild with a lot of sucking and blowing and when they have left the house is gone...!

Nor here despite us supposedly being one of the worst affected cantons.

Re: Storm Ciara

It was terrible here. Our garden waste bin blew over - as did one of the garden chairs.

Very noisy though. And just now, the sun came out - while the wind was still driving the rain almost horizontally. Didn't last long enough to get a photo, unfortunately.

I applaud it that the Basel-land managed to stop it for canton Aargau and the rest of Switzerland. True ally.

It looks as if it is about to start here......there were a few minor-ish gusts of wind during the a.m. and it is all grey/black in the sky and eerie now......

There were substantially more leaves in my parking area than usual as well as a rogue shopping bag. Devastating to see.

Let’s just watch out not to get blown off our feet. Other than that, solid Swiss walls should keep us from the calamity.

Re: Storm Ciara

The wind shattered several roof panels on our Tomatenhüsli and blew down the kiwi trellis.

Silver lining: OH now has another DIY project. The man is never happier than when pottering around with bits and bobs and tools.

As to the latter, I call it karma. I've poured my heart and soul into that thing for 5 years now, and nary a fruit in return. Now I can rip it out with a clear conscience and replace it with something more 'grateful', maybe try my hand at espalier-ing an apple or pear in it's place.

Up in Scotland it's like that movie the day after tomorrow. All the seasons in an hour every hour.

Currently getting a sheet of snow

High time for you to apply for the Swiss passport.

While yeah, it was windy all night, it only started to get impressive about an hour ago. Our house is built at a perfect angle, nothing in my garden actually moves! Except the tree tops. Not the first time I notice this. Cudos to the architect (for what I suspect was a lucky strike, LOL).

Such storms are the only thing that make me nervous. Grumpy, please reserve two packs of crumpets for me, I won't be driving to Zurich today.

The walk from the Train station to the office was defintely not a "breeze" and I was pretty much "blown away" by the gale. It also broke one of the metallic shutters at work.

They surfed the storm front, so landed before it hit the UK.

I always feel like I'm not getting full value of my biz class ticket when on one of these short trans-Atlantic flights.
