21st Century - so much for gender equality

"A new UN report has found at least 90% of men and women hold some sort of bias against females."

People often confuse bias with simple common sense.

If woman would learn how to drive and park a car the world would improve a lot.
(/joke)

Nah, but equality sounds great and is great but is only existing on some small local scales, and in a big part of the world woman unfortunately are seen by many as disposable commodities. We've come a long way but are nowhere near the end of where we should be. I'd say if we don't get rid of religion it will still take thousands of yrs before woman are seen as equal among the world.

That means that at least 80% of women hold some sort of bias against women.

I wonder the bias against men.

Equality will only come when men no longer ;
don't need to hold doors open,
let ladies go first,
put down toilet seats,
get into life boats last,
remember anniversaries,
pay for everything,

etc ...

That joke is specially funny when guys register the car in the wife's name to reduce insurance costs. It happens

Not sure your numbers are quite right, but yes, it's clear that women in very unequal societies will often conform to the general views, that they're inferior and have fewer rights or abilities than men.

I don't think you need look even that far.

There are women working in my department, for example, who have a quite modern mindset and career ambitions by all means believe in themselves and run their lives their way. But they say, for example, that they would rather work under a male boss than a female one. Maybe some lingering perception of women in positions of power being cold-blooded single-minded ruthless careerists.

Maybe the reason many women distrusted Margaret Thatcher or Hillary Clinton?

Interestingly the woman who say these things each consider themselves exceptions to that rule, and think they would make good bosses.

I normally open doors and let the wife go first.. In case there's a big hole on the other side or an angry bear or something.

And what proportion of those with a bias are male? If it's 50/50, that's a result. Of sorts...

Re: 21st Century - so much for gender equality

simple fact of life,

men and women ARE NOT the same, everyone will be a lot happy if we all stopped pretending they are, if you really want equality, and all that entails lets start with say sports, no more splitting events by gender.

Then move onto pensions, everyone retires at the same age

how about maternity leave, everyone gets the same (the lower one)

etc etc

everyone wants equality only when it bring positives for them with none of the negatives
