Keir Starmer elected as new Labour Leader

Great news, and very convincing majority. Bravo. Some say he lacks charisma- but I reply s*d charisma- give me experience, intelligence, strength of character and so much more ... Bravo. Great speech too

You should get him a teleprompter that can display entire sentences though.

Possible victory. Hard left will be purged, Centre left ground, Blair v2, world going into huge recession by next election people may well see a viable alternative to the tories.

God let's hope not. The Tories are far from perfect, and I wish they were a bit less reactionary and a bit more liberal I'd take them any day of the week over any wing of labour.

Personally I liked the coalition. I do think the Lib Dem's were very hard done by.

I'll start us off:

Excuse 1: The deputy leader.

In all seriousness. I'd never vote labour, but at least Starmer is seemingly a decent bloke who doesn't peddle in extremism or conspiracy theories. An opponent I can respect and who is fit for office. Hopefully we can now avoid a US style situation where the two sides can't even talk to each other.

Indeed! Just the caliber of the candidates illustrated Labourís problem for all too see. They were awful! Contrast this to the Tories who have talent left right and centre, not least in Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Iíll be surprised if Sir Keir even makes it to the next election as leader, Labour arenít going to see power for at least another decade!

Well, wait and see. The Tories are making a total balls up of Brexit and Covid19- and austerity now seen as a total waste of pain and suffering- with current massive borrowing the likes of which not even Labour would have dreamt off...

I think the 'people' will remember how they have been sh*fted by this Tory Gvt.

1000s who could never have voted for Corbyn, will be very happy and keen to vote for Starmer.

Congratulations Labour for choosing a leader who seems to be connected to today's world, no known history of supporting terrorists and who's economical policy wasn't lifted from Soviet textbooks.

I liked the coalition too. I was disgusted by the bad mouthing by the Conservations of the Lib Dem's after they got them out. So much for the welcoming of them to the Coalition originally. Totally undiplomatic. If they had been employees of a company, management would have had them 'over the coals'.

Where do you get your news from? The Tories are currently polling above 50%, the highest at any time in their history. Not bad for a party making a ďtotal balls upĒ

Re: Keir Starmer elected as new Labour Leader

Even our staunchiest Tory voting relatives and friends- are appalled by the handling of this crisis by Johnson and team.

Wait and see - but I truly and sincerely believe that Starmer will be shown to be a true Statesman in a way Johnson could never be.

And those in traditional Labour areas in the NE and NW - will soon see that the promises made to them by Johnson are not going to make their lives better and that they have been played- sh*fted big time.

Wait and see ...

Re: Keir Starmer elected as new Labour Leader

Iíll take your word for it that you really do have plenty of friends who are staunch Tories, and that all of them are "appalled" by Boris Johnson and his handling of the pandemic. Your survey, and I totally accept that you undertook it, is completely at odds with my own observations.

As for Starmer, good luck to him. Labour deserves better than the dreadful leadership of recent years. I just hope he doesnít use the global crisis as a 'great opportunity' to moan about whoís to blame.

I hope Iím wrong but I suspect his first act as leader will be to ensure his party is fully equipped with aptly named 20:20 hindsight goggles.

Re: Keir Starmer elected as new Labour Leader

Personality of a sponge. Labour is doomed, the Tories took all their ideas of grand spending on infra and raining money from the sky and passed them as their own.

Labour might as well un-electable and bigger defeats coming. Their failure to take a stance in Brexit should cause the party to disband and all of them to go home. They failed spectacularly.

Re: Keir Starmer elected as new Labour Leader

Oh yes, they failed, and spectacularly as you say. Keir Starmer won't and his stance on Europe was always clear too- onwards and forwards.
