Those guys were pissed because the couple didn’t show deference nor respect. But one cannot demand respect, one can only earn it.

It had also occurred to me that because the video record was so good for proving the central allegation of at least "over reaction", that all the cops appear to have been white and the chief victim was (lightly) coloured, that it was a spoof designed to cause outrage. But, no, it does seem to be just daily life there.

In the upheaval of the '70s, we used to walk home from uni classes, and when we encountered the LAPD guarding the B of A building, we'd raise our hands in the air and say, "Just going home, officer, just going home."

It ain’t over until it’s over. He has the right to appeal and even the judge thinks there may be grounds for this. And if he wins, or loses, there is room for appeals all the way to the Supremes.

If this is over before the pandemic is, I’d be very surprised.

Even without her incitiong violence. The judge's remark that a "not guilty" verdict might cause renewed unrest is another one. Didn't he say that before Waters broke the law?

How can you claim Chauvin caused Floyd's death when the actual cause is unclear? First the prosecution went for asphyxia, but when that fell apart they changed their claim to heart arrest. Which is rather far fetched given that his heart blood vessels were blocked by something like 90% before the arrest. He definitely didn't get that from Chauvin's knee.

And of course there's the not-so-trivial fact of the fentanyl and other drugs in Floyd's blood, its concentration appears to have ben significantly higher (like by 50%) than what was lethal in other cases, plus semi-dissolved drug pills on the police car with Floyd's DNA on them.

Floyd's drug dealer was with him in the car, but refused testimony pleading the 5th. Usually the prosecution would offer immunity in return for the testimony, but no such thing was offered here. Obviously the prosecution doesn't care about the truth, they're only interested in a verdict.

Oh and btw, Maxine Waters was obviously inciting violence. But that's Ok, it's only bad when the Republicans do it.

Would have been very surprised if the most mediated case of institutional racism ended up with a different sentence. I think he can appeal till the cows come home. He might invoke a mental illness though, that scene made me believe the man could be mentally ill. There's no way such an amount of visceral hatred belongs to "normal". We'll see. After all he might get away on the basis of mental sickness.
