Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Had the Republicans stopped playing silly buggers and allowed Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin to begin counting early votes a week or so ago, we most likely would have known the outcome late Tuesday night or early Wednesday. I still stand by my call for Biden 27 hours ago - and believe he will take GA & PA making a lot of the legal shenanigans academic. Though that doesn't mean Trump will just roll over....

Once the dust settles I wonder if whoever bankrolled the respective candidates will believe that the obscene amount of $14 billion dollars of election spending was money well spent

I'm seeing very little movement, where are you getting your news from? I'm still hoping Nevada finishes up their count so there is some sort of confirmation.

Do you think Arizona was called too early? It looks as though it will remain Biden with the difference there being nearly too large unless there are a lot of trump mail ins.
Maybe Biden should tell them to stop counting...
News here

Yes, Arizona called too soon due to an incorrect and too high percentage count
of the vote published.

Edit: People are calling it "John McCain's revenge"

The polls weren't even that wrong. A bit so in the midwest. Its just Florida is becoming a red state (which we knew already) and that confused people about the overall situation.

It's like something from a Monty Python sketch. In AZ, Trump and his band of henchmen are protesting to keep the count going - whilst at the same time in PA, Trump et al are taking legal action to try and shut the counting down!

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

GA and NC both look incredibly tight. I had thought GA was going D reasonably comfortably, but the republicans still have a decent lead - 18,000 with only 50,000 votes left - so clearly its not a done deal yet even if its Democratic territory still to be counted. Republicans are 2/7 in NC so seem likely to win there.

I'm not sure I quite understand what's going on in AZ - I'm not sure anyone does. The odds at 11/4 for the R's suggest its not over - Biden's lead has been shrinking and shrinking the more votes are counted. Now down to 2%. Even if ultimately correct, the call was far too early.

Dems will thus want to secure PA as I don't think any of the three above sunbelt states are secure for them (if they lose all three they need PA). Democrats need over 60% of the vote still out there. Pennslyvania is now 80% counted. There are still a lot of strong Trump counties with vote still to be counted - its not just the big city left (at least according to NY post). Its going to be pretty tight.

Trump could yet come back from the dead.

Put an order at the Iranian factory for EU flammable flags if you want

Business is booming at Iran’s largest flag factory which makes US, British and Israeli flags for Iranian protesters to burn.
At the factory in the town of Khomein, south-west of the capital Tehran, young men and women print the flags by hand then hang them up to dry. The factory produces about 2,000 US and Israeli flags a month

German election observer accuses Trump of gross abuse of office

Quote:
"The most disturbing thing was that with presidential fanfare of the White House, that is, with all the insignia of power, the American commander-in-chief called for an end to the count because of his purported victory," Michael Link from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe told the German daily Stuttgarter Zeitung.

"That was a gross abuse of office," he said, adding that Trump's "claims of manipulation are baseless".

Link warned that Trump's repeated false allegations of fraud could have far-reaching consequences.

"The major concern is that the US will not be able put back into the bottle the genie that Trump has let out."

"Even if he were to admit defeat and hand over office properly, his supporters, incited by rhetoric, may see violence as a legitimate tool because they no longer feel democratically represented," said Link.

And that is "a danger that goes far beyond election day," added the mission chief of the OSCE, which monitors elections throughout Western nations and the former Soviet Union.

On Wednesday, the mission already released a statement saying that there was no basis to Trump's claims of cheating, and that Tuesday's vote was "competitive and well managed."

Trump, 74, has claimed victory unilaterally before counting in key battleground states has concluded.

He has also made clear he would not accept the reported results, issuing unprecedented complaints -- unsupported by any evidence -- of fraud.

Some truth to it, health and safety reasons. A bit of petrol will solve the issue but better to stick with US flags to keep the costs down

What polls were showing was a massive shift of elder voters to Biden, as a consequence of the Covid mismanagement. That is why some people (including me) expected a good chance of FL going blue. Would be interesting to see final composition of the vote, but what I read it was mainly the Cuban vote going massively pro Trump.

That explains about 2/3 of the improved GOP performance. But the rest of florida was pretty similar to 2016 (infact around 100,000 votes net better for Trump). The 200,000 extra Trump votes in Miami Dade were not actually needed as Trump won FL by 400,000.

I always felt Trump would win FL - ultimately its a state with a R Governor, voted for Trump last time, and even voted out its incumbent D senator in the 2018 midterms against the general flow of the night.

How many statewide elections have the R's won in a row now there? Quite a few.

Look, I don't disagree with the observation that FL is getting redder. Probably the Covid impact on the voting behaviour of the elder voter was overestimated.

Out of interest - what are your opinions on the lead moderate from the other side Joe Manchin (D-WV)?

Surely its a good thing there are a couple of people in the senate able to have dialogue with the other side? Also that these moderates allow for a competitive election in a heavily Red state (WV), and a reasonably heavily blue one (ME).

I think its important that both parties make some effort to put forward candidates with views acceptable to voters in states that traditionally vote for the other side. Its good for democracy and giving people a real choice.

It also allows for relatively purple voters in any state to have people in congress that reflect those purple views. I for one wouldn't feel represented by either party. I understand Collins's voting record and would broadly have voted similarly. She doesn't feel disingenuous to me. Do you really think she is a Trumpanzee faking it? Or a moderate, modern woman slightly right-of-centre? To me the latter makes a lot more sense.
Manchin is ok. Some stuff I agree with, others not. As a US person I am certainly more left of center. I am from Western PA, and the one thing I absolutely believe is that there is a need for alternative energy sources. Trying to resuscitate coal jobs does nothing for anyone. People need to think about ways to replace coal jobs. So I take issue with Manchin on that. And also defunding planned parenthood.

I also have a hard time with party allegiance. It should be people first, then party, so there’s that. That’s a general thought, not specific to anyone.

When Susan Collins said there was no systemic racism in Maine, I had to roll my eyes. So yeah, she’s moderate but modern? Nah. But time will tell.

I’m most sorry Mitch is still around.
