Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

From the results I would say this time around more Americans favour Republicans than Democrats. But more Americans dislike Trump than Biden. And those that do got their vote in early.

It’s a pity that some state Republicans rejected early counting of advance/postal votes and the post office failed to do their job properly. The results could have been known on Wednesday.

But, in any case, the delay really doesn’t matter. The next step is the electoral college and that’s mid December.

Holy freaking crap. I wasted all 3 minutes of my life reading that conspiracy theorist's blog post. It's littered with made-up claims (e.g. "poll observers being removed", "the dem observers outnumber the GOP observers 3 to 1", "USPS whistleblower reporting to the Inspector General that today they were ordered to backdate ballots to yesterday", "Big Tech and the media had a concentrated censorship effort to stop what was probably the juiciest October Surprise in modern history", and so on).

Nothing to see here, let's move on.
I have posted earlier on this thread an article about foreign (German) observers at these elections saying that Trump's claims re. elections frauds are baseless. People whose jobs were to observe the elections say there's nothing to see here, yet the usual culprits know better.
I'll post one more link

Quote:
Michael Georg Link, a German lawmaker who heads an observer mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, told German public broadcaster rbb Thursday that “on the election day itself, we couldn’t see any violations” at the U.S. polling places they visited.

Link said he was “very surprised” by Trump’s claims about postal ballot fraud because the United States has a long history of this method of voting going back to the 19th century.

“We looked into this. We found no violations of the rules whatsoever,” Link told rbb.

He said neither U.S. election observers nor media found any evidence of fraud either, though the OSCE team on Wednesday repeated long-standing concerns about disenfranchisement of some voters and the distorting effects of campaign finance laws.
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/eu...ms-01604628861

Meantime, native Americans who live in reservations and have no stable addresses couldn't vote. And probably there are other categories who were prevented from voting, but hey ho. I can find articles on that one too.

How do you arrive at that conclusion? And Americans who voted early may both dislike Trump and be mostly Democrats. Democrats spent a lot of effort encouraging absentee/vote by mail and it seems to have paid off.

Come on... that is such a load of BS to even bring up the spectre of Hitler. You don't have to be a Trump supporter to suspect that massive amounts of voter fraud are involved in this election. Anyone with any bit of statistical training would have to smell (at least) a hint of something being off here. Read through this post from a 1st generation American of Portuguese descent and tell me that it doesn't at least make you think... What a shameful post, Castro!

Forget Berlin, a bunker in Baghdad.. Tripoli.. Tunis etc.. where the strongman leader surrounded by 'Yes men' is convinced his powers are being usurped.

Would in a place that people showed a sudden and incredible civic responsibility and voted much more - in an undemocratic and deceitful system - be democracy wasted, then? US used to be the model of "how to" in democracy. How is that going to develop? What bothers me aside of the situation being even possible, is the fact that so many people were scared to own up to their votes in public, in media, family, at polls. It is by definition the opposite of democracy.
Lots of Trump supporters parading in the streets, no shame there whatsoever. Oh, forgot. You don't have tv and don't watch the news. It's the rest of us losers who do that.

And yes, even politically inactive people can mobilise to vote en masse when the alternative is to have someone really bad for their country win.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I think that Trump had basically brainwashed his supporters to feel 100% convinced that he was going to win the election. I use to sometimes have a peek at comments on the Fox News website, just to see what people there were saying, and I would see soooo many of his supporters saying things like "Liberals will be crying like babies again when Trump wins," etc. and basically expressing that they were 100% certain that Trump was going to win, without a doubt. So now that they're faced with having to accept an alternative reality -- one that contradicts their cognitive biases -- and the truth that Trump is not winning, they're unwilling to accept it due to cognitive dissonance. A bit like trying to convince a Jihadist that their god is not real. Their instinct is to shut it out because it conflicts with their subjective construct of reality.

Cognitive Dissonace

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance

"In the field of psychology, cognitive dissonance occurs when a person holds contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values, and is typically experienced as psychological stress when they participate in an action that goes against one or more of them. According to this theory, when two actions or ideas are not psychologically consistent with each other, people do all in their power to change them until they become consistent.[1] The discomfort is triggered by the person's belief clashing with new information perceived, wherein they try to find a way to resolve the contradiction to reduce their discomfort.[1][2]"

I don't think it will be that dramatic. He's smart enough to know the game is up and much of this is just residual theatre for his loyal base. A lot of insiders have spoken off the record that its over, but to admit it would draw huge amounts of ire from his supporters. Once they do come out and say it, as Fox et al has done then it will be time.

He will probably say 'I've been treated extremely unfairly... but thats OK', which is a phrase I've heard him utter many times.

And....I think he's definitely smarter than some of his supporters.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I feel wary, here and anywhere, when a person or people who have nothing to do with a country, decisively try to stir the pot in a group discussion with the intentional purpose of creating friction.
It feels manipulative and it makes me wonder why they’re doing it.

As an American (in addition to being Swiss) I am hoping that Biden will become our new President.
I want to feel that life is quiet and normal again, not just for Americans, but also for the rest of the world.
I want a President who feels it is important to listen to scientists on climate change and to doctors about coronavirus, and in the process continues to support important organisations for all of humanity such as the World Health Organisation.

The US government, yes. But not the people in general. The people have very little control over America's foreign policy (their only say in the matter is their vote, really, and even that only has so much power).

Just thinking of how quiet decency, kind character and respectful leadership inspires people to do good to others.
I believe we have those qualities in Biden.

People who lived or live in America probably don't see "normal life" as quiet. That's a Swiss way of seeing things. I like it too and appreciate it here, but anytime I lived in the US, quiet was not what seemed to be important there.
