Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I could understand people voting for Trump because he was different and vowed to defeat the system.

The problem was/is with what would he replace the system.

In his first term, he demonstrated that if unleashed he would fill the Government with loyalists who would implement his wishes regardless of ethics and regardless of the Constitution and he would extend his second term to lifelong.

It is a relief that Biden won but without a Dem Senate, he will be a lame-duck President and consequently will lose the House in 2022 due to disappointed voters.

Sadly the down vote Dems did not do well in State elections so vote repression will be rampant and so the 2024 election will not be something to look forward to.

I hope I will be proven to be wrong and Biden's first term will be the success that we all wish for.

Joseph R. Biden Jr. has been elected the 46th president of the USA. Congrats!

Btw: Our son who was born on the 1st of July was named Joseph and we didn’t think back then that it would be such a coincidence in 2020. All the best to all Joseph’s

Fantastic!!!

Interesting theory doing the rounds that Trump will resign in his last days and hand over to Pence in return for Pence pardoning him for his crimes. Although I can't imagine Trump's ego allowing him yo resign.
The Pardon will only apply to any federal crimes. State crimes, which he might face in New York are not pardonable.

Resigning means he doesn‘t have to admit defeat. Maybe he‘ll resign and go somewhere there‘s no extradition.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

The Associated Press called Nevada for Biden, who holds a lead of more than 20,000 votes, at midday Saturday.

Fox News also projected Biden as the winner in Nevada.

Fox News has definitely gone off Trump

No the military does not require much if you are going to be a line cook or a ground pounder. Satellite communications on the other hand does require a high GPA and ASVAB score. The requirement, just to be an applicant to the Military Acadamies, requires a damn near perfect GPA, your entire H.S record including clubs, activities, etc better be full and perfect PLUS you need a letter of recomendation from one of the two U.S Senators from your home state before they even look at your application.
The U.S and Israeli militaries are world leaders in technology and work with R&D budgets that are multiple times larger than the combined budgets of Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and throw a few more cherries on top. All of this depends on what your job title or M.O.S was while in the military. Some are more specialized than others.
What is the interest in making US Military sound like a bunch of losers, while they clearly aren't? Who would do it and why,

Joe Biden, President elect. And the world breathes a massive sigh of relief. I shall sleep better tonight. And its first woman of colour becomes Vice President.

They have done it.
Have watched the announcement on SRF. I have never, ever, seen Monika Schoenenberger (the moderator who has announced the news) smile so much.

I was joking with the OH that Switzerland could have won against Germany at football, I don't know, something similar. She couldn't have been more smiley.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Good for America, good for the planet & human race that Trump was defeated but a reminder that while this dangerous clown is done, half of the US supports him - meaning the US remains a mess and a lot of work lays ahead

Biden is an astonishingly poor candidate from a disgustingly corrupt party that railroaded one of their own (Bernie) twice in successive elections. As many activists have commented from the outset of Biden getting the nomination to face Trump, were he to win then the work would have to begin the next day to hold Joe accountable & ensure he does the right things. That sounds more promising than the alternative but it remains a very divided country

The problem I still see with the US is that much like when Obama was elected, many will dance & clap like at the end of so many American films when they are nowhere near the end of needed efforts. Let's hope apathy does not set in and business as usual does not continue with the Dems of coddling special interests and maintaining the status quo

Trump just had a whole string of tweets labelled false by Twitter.

I can only quote "Philadelphia's mayor told Donald Trump to put his 'big boy pants on' and accept election defeat."

I don't often agree with you but that's absolutely spot on. Biden will find it very hard to get through much of his existing agenda the way things stand. He will have to find a way that is acceptable to Murkowski and Collins (and Manchin). I think this is actually good for the US - we should have policy that reflects the political centre. Sensible economics and no weird social conservativism. Biden is actually the right person for this bipartisan situation. Having Bernie would be a disaster. Biden will be able to talk to the moderates and get something in place.

He's nevertheless likely a one term president unless the republicans go for some form of Trump 2. They just need to stfu and nominate Hailey and stop being just so weird.

In a way it's a pity Trump went out like this - his political achievements for a bloke that was basically a reality tv actor with a bad wig are considerable. Even much of his policy (not his rhetoric) is to be commended. You don't have to be a staunch follower of Reaganomics to see that the US corporation tax level was far too high prior to his cut. Reducing US military interference abroad is another example. All his bullshit about the wall and locking Hilary up was just that.

Sadly words count for a lot in politics. They've regularly encouraged violence and deep division. And even for him leaving office like this is an embarrassing car crash.
