That would be my preference.
Like a monarchy?

For example, FDR should have never stood for a 4th term. He was too ill. The problem is when loyalists surround the leader, they make it possible to prop up the leader when perhaps they are not fit to lead. I can see the cult of Trump engaging in a similar behavior, had he won.

It's hardly a monarchy when you have to be elected every few years. As long as the elections continue fairly I don't see a major issue with it. At the same time I think it's good that there is a limit to introduce some other fresh faced 70 year old into the position.

They are probably running out of money for all those lawyers. They already switched from using leading high-cost lawyers to cheaper local firms.
And today
Quote:
The law firm Porter Wright Morris & Arthur on Thursday moved to withdraw from a case filed on behalf of President Trump’s campaign in Pennsylvania challenging the election results.

The motion does not provide an explanation for the decision.
Source

The article also states "The New York Times reported earlier this week that there were internal tensions at the firm, which is based in Columbus, Ohio, related to its work for the Trump campaign in Pennsylvania.".

CNN has now fallen into line and also stated that Biden won Arizona.

Quote:
President Donald Trump and his allies continue to argue the results were somehow fraudulent.

On Wednesday, the Trump campaign claimed that the identities of four deceased people were used to vote in Georgia.
The campaign tweeted out the names of the four deceased former residents of Georgia, claiming that a ballot was cast in each one's name in the 2020 election.

County officials debunked two of these allegations, telling CNN that ballots for two of the named individuals were not cast in 2020.
Officials are aware of the two other allegations and are looking into those names.

An age limit of 65 would be good too. That would have saved us from Trump vs Clinton and Biden vs Trump.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I think the time has come to consider term limits, and I'll include SCOTUS in that. (I'm intrigued by Calabresi's proposal of a single 18 year term for justices.)

However, I am not sure what the magic number for those term limits would be. I'm currently leaning towards the higher end, if only to take advantage of experience.

But term limits are mainly a tool to chip away at a more insidious problem: The immense power of vested interests. Entrenched politicians seem to increasingly listen to their donors over their constituency. Term limits address the symptom, but don't get to the root of the problem. We have to find a way to limit the influence of K Street.

(My other SCOTUS fantasy: Reconsidering Citizens United.)

That’s why I’m not worried that Trump will overstay his welcome. If he is still in the Whitehouse at 00h01 on 20 January he will be escorted out of the building by the secret service. They might call him a cab.

The Trump campaign dropped its lawsuit on Friday in Arizona seeking a review of ballots cast in the state's biggest county in the presidential race just hours after multiple outlets projected President-elect Joe Biden to carry the state.

The campaign, which filed the complaint Saturday, said in a new filing that it would no longer seek a court order for a review of presidential votes over its allegation that poll workers had mishandled ballots rejected by tabulation machines.

CNN today
Quote:
Here's the final electoral vote tally
CNN has projected winners in the two outstanding states — Georgia and North Carolina.

President-elect Joe Biden will win Georgia with 16 electoral college votes, and President Trump will win North Carolina with 15 electoral college votes.

Now that all the states have been projected, here's the final tally:

Biden now has 306 electoral votes — well over the 270 threshold needed to win the presidency.

Trump has a total of 232 electoral votes.

There are term limits for the president, why not for congress and the senate?

The constitution.

They're never going to put forth an amendment to limit their own terms. I doubt 3/4 of the states would approve either. When it comes down to it, voters tend to think their senator/rep is doing a good job and it's those other senators and reps that need to get voted out. Including service on both houses, these are the longest-serving folks still in office in Washington:

Don Young, R, Alaska - nearly 50 years
Patrick Leahy, D, Vermont - nearly 46 years
Chuck Grassley, R, Nebraska - nearly 46 years
Ed Markey, D, Massachusetts - just over 44 years
Richard Shelby, D then R, Alabama - nearly 42 years
Jim Sensenbrenner, R, Wisconsin, nearly 42 years

The longest-serving woman in Washington is Marcy Kaptur, D, Ohio - nearly 38 years

Longest ever was John Dingell, D, Michigan - retired after 59 years

Term limits are simply pointless. What you want to do is to reform the Election Campaign Act or replace it with something similar to European regulation. This is how you get away from two-party tyranny in US. Term limits will do nothing to lobbying or corruption, they would just steal faster.
And reform the Electoral College. So long as you need 270 to win, third parties are relegated to being the spoilers. Ds and Rs might not like each other, but they'd rather only fight each other for those 270.

1st January he's still legally president. Maybe 20th January, after whatever time the inauguration is completed.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Friday apologized to viewers after a local Georgia news outlet pointed out that he had made a false claim about a dead individual illegally voting in the state.

On a Thursday evening segment of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” the host claimed that someone had cast a ballot on behalf of James Blalock of Covington, Ga., who died in 2006.

However, Newton County officials said in a statement Thursday that Blalock did not vote and that the record found by the Trump campaign referred to a vote cast by Blalock’s widow, registered under his name as "Mrs. James E. Blalock, Jr."
