A Presidential pardon can only be granted for Federal crimes, not state crimes. Roll on New York and, now, Georgia.
Yes, a civil probe by New York Attorney General Letitia James into whether he inflated asset values to obtain loans and tax benefits, and a defamation lawsuit by the writer E. Jean Carroll, whose allegation of rape he has denied.
Probably more cases will pop up not excluding his niece Mary alleging she was swindled over her inheritance.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Not exactly Trump/Biden but along the same disgusting lines
Quote:
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) on Tuesday accused state GOP lawmakers of engaging in a “shameful power grab” after they refused to seat the Democratic winner of a state Senate election whose victory was certified by state officials.

Wolf’s comments followed a tumultuous legislative session during which the Senate’s Republican majority prevented Democratic state Sen. Jim Brewster from being seated for his fourth term, despite defeating his GOP opponent by a narrow margin.

Quite stunning for a deep red state like Georgia.

Usually, the early results show GOP leading because they tend to vote in person, and only later when the mail-in votes are counted does it turn to the Dems.

The Dems are already leading Warnock (1.2% lead) now & Ossof (0.2% lead) now so when the final mail-in ballots are counted it should be an easy Dem victory; CNN estimates 98% of the votes are counted which is a big improvement over the Presidential election.

It is claimed one major factor was a downturn in the GOP vote which can be directly laid at Trump's door due to his election rigging claims.
Karma.

And from the sore loser himself

Yup, the big irony is that all of the recent outrageous Trump/Republican antics will have turned off the many "normal" Republican voters who have a sane head on their shoulders. They have been their own undoing!

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Right now, Ossoff is leading by 16,000. 50.2% to 49.8%. The remaining vote areas are heavily Democratic. If his lead holds and it can increase to .5%, then an automatic recount will not occur.

Warnock is leading by more than 50,000 votes. The race was called in his favor by several media outlets.

Apparently Pence told Trump that he could not do anything for him. The fun starts around 7pm our time.

I am from Pennsylvania, though I no longer vote there. The behavior of the PA State senate is appalling. Complete assholes. They performed their stunt, but you could see how nervous they were around Fetterman, who is a big, imposing guy. Bunch of Putzes. Obviously, I’ve never liked Trump, but this incivility and abandonment of the law is, imho directly related to attitudes fostered by Trump and his allies.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

It is hilarious. After the Biden win, I expected that there would be some "correction" in the GA senate race in the sense that moderates/independents that may have preferred Biden over Trump still preferred a Republican senate.

The idiotic "stop the steal" campaign of Trump and GOP, plus the spineless candidates (especially Loeffler, did you see her little show on the Trump stage?) made all the difference.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

If Ossoff comes through with the win, it'll give Biden a little breathing time, but not much. The Dems would control the White House and both houses of Congress, so passing bills would be relatively simple (although the Supreme Court is still stacked 6–3 for the Republicans), but Warnock will be coming in as a Class III Senator, so he will be up for reelection in November 2022.

Unless Biden performs.spectacularly well, and Trump is somehow silenced (prison would work), I suspect that the natural lean to the right in Georgia would reassert itself over the next two years. Kamala Harris' seat is also Class III, so her untested replacement will also have only a couple of years in the job before facing reelection (probably not such a tough task as it's representing California). And there'll be another 32 Senate seats also up for grabs then, too, of course.

The good news for Biden and the Dems, though, is that 20 of the Senators up for reelection in 2022 are Republicans and 14 (if Warnock is confirmed) are Democrats, so it's the Republicans' race to lose. And Chuck Grassley, who will be about 120 years old by then, may well retire at or before the 2022 election, putting another Republican Senate seat in doubt.

Two years for passing sensible legislation. I bet Biden is quite happy now. 2022 was going to be difficult in any event.

Raw numbers don't really matter, what matters is where they are. In a midterm election the R's will be eyeing:

Arizona
Georgia
New Hampshire
(longer shots) Nevada and Colorado.

On the other hand for the Dem's would be looking at Pennslyvania and Wisconsin. I would have thought NC and FL would be out of reach this cycle.

Biden won by 12,000 in Georgia so both the Dem senators are currently leading by more votes despite a lower turnout and when the count is not yet completed; something like 60,000 votes remains to be counted and likely favouring the Dems.

17,000 military votes won't be counted till Friday. They tend to lean Republican, but if the margins for the Democrat candidates are greater than about 10k, they won't be concerned.

On Wednesday morning, Gabriel Sterling, a top official in the Georgia secretary of state's office, said that there was an estimated 60,000 late-arriving mail ballots to be counted across the state, which came in to local election authorities on Tuesday and are often the last ballots to be counted.
Probably also some more votes hanging around in larger counties plus the military votes

This could be interesting... They just started live-streaming the joint session of Congress to certify the electoral college results. One of the rare occasions (I guess) where the House and Senate are together. Pelosi is standing up there right next to Pence.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/live...49098#75078523

At least most of them appear to be wearing masks.

Yes, you are correct. I heard about 70,000 recently.

Well, they just adjourned to debate the objection to Arizona's electoral votes. Going to be a long day for these peeps.

Earlier, Pence issued a statement where he said that he could not change the course of the election.

Yeah, this is insane. Only a few minutes into the session and already one state's electoral votes have been objected. I felt like throwing up when all the Republicans stood up to celebrate it. You could tell that Paul Gosar was nervous as hell when he voiced his objection. Probably a reflection of his subconscious -- knowing that he doesn't have anything to back it up with. I guess Trump called Pence minutes prior to the session to once again pressure him. I'm sure he's done the same with every member of the GOP in the House and Senate.

It's just absolutely sickening.
